Well now i am going again .....
This makes me happy!
Glad your still forging on with your plans! Even if they weren’t exactly as you originally thought!
Money, a roof over my head. And a spare bit of floor for B.O.B to sleep on
Roof over your head and floor can be organised a lot easier once you’re over there. Focus on saving money and actually going. If you need to stay at the hostel for a week at the start of the season while organising stuff, just do it. It’s not that bad and you’ll meet people / make friends.
Well i was goin, so i started arrangin shit. Then i wasnt, so i forgot about all the stuff i needed to organise.
Wellll now i am going again so i will be frantically running around in the next 1.5 weeks getting my shit sorted before i fly out… fuck.
Dont stress deano, i didnt even have my letter of acceptance and they let me in
*edit: not to mention they didnt ask for proof of funds or any of that other stuff, and as for customs, i could have written “im carrying illegal drugs and explosives” on the declaration card and they wouldnt have given a shit by the way i went through
Yeah. One guy I met in Vancouver at the hostel had about $200 to his name… and didn’t start work for like 2 weeks…
Haha Yeh I’m not too worried.
Just need Dydlo to organise a house before I get there and I will be happy
You organise a house and I will bring over spare shoes for ya

Hey guys, I’m new to the forum and have found all the info here super helpful so far, thanks!
I’m from the US, and I’ll be moving to Whistler for the winter season with a 1 year working permit. Ideally, I’d love to work for the resort and live in the staff housing since that lifestyle appeals to me, but I won’t be able to move to Whistler until mid November(prior obligation the weekend of the 8th). I could, however, go to whistler for just a few days surrounding the nov. 1st job fair though it would cost me a few hundred dollars to do so. But if it scored me a resort job and a spot in the staff housing I think it might be worth it. Anybody have advice?

staff housing has a huge wait list at the moment so, i wouldnt put my money on getting a spot there. and housing is super hard to find for the season, especially at a reasonable price

Welcome to Boardworld, pmccain.
If you can get to the Job Fair, I think this would be your best chance at securing a job and a spot in staff housing. As Dylan mentioned, things are super tight in Whistler right now. It really doesn’t seem like there is much going on. Get yourself to the Job Fair… I think that’s the only way to be honest. I don’t like your chances if you miss the Job Fair. Best of luck and let us know how you go.
Thanks for the advice. It’s probably difficult to predict, but how high are my chances of getting a job by showing at the job fair? Is it going to be way overcrowded for the number of positions? I’d hate to spend multiple days and hundreds of dollars and make no real progress
Give them a call or email to clarity exactly.

First step, you need a job with the mountain. Focus on this first. If you get a full-time job they will try to accommodate you in staff housing (but again, please confirm with them).
I’m guessing things are super tight with staff housing right now as they know they still have a lot of hiring to do.

In recent years, most people are successful getting jobs at the Job Fair. I’ve never gone through this route myself as I had a guaranteed job but a lot of my friends have done it this way.
I think the best thing you can do right now is contact WB Employment Services and ask as many questions as you can.
I wonder if there is a current waitlist because they want to be able to offer people a job with accommodation at the job fair.
So they are holding ‘rooms’ until then?
Hopefully that is the case that they’re saving more housing openings for the upcoming wave of new hires. I tried calling just now, but it’s outside their open hours. Sent an email and got an automatic reply with this info:
Thank you for your email. Due to high business levels, please allow up to 3-5 days for a reply.
