Football talk - The Beautiful Game Thread

Love transfer deadline day!!! Man Utd pretty active, losing Welbeck, Hernandez and Kagawa, gaining Falcao & Daley Blind. Don’t know why they didn’t get a CB and DM! They could be in trouble, as with Arsenal.

Blind has played almost exclusively as a DM for Ajax over the last year or so, it’s where he plays his best football…disappointed that Rojo was our only CB signing but there wasn’t much value on the CB market towards the end of the window. Jones has been our best player this season so far and I can see him doing a good job with Rojo and Evans/Smalling/Blackett if we end up sticking with the 3-5-2. I can see a diamond 4-4-2 being a good idea also.

Danny Welbeck leaving sucks! I’d obviously take Falcao over him any day, but can you imagine United selling a young, talented academy product to a desperate Arsenal side during Fergie’s era? Never in a million years…I guess that era is well and truly behind us. Offloading Chicharito too means that James Wilson is our fourth striker…I can see Januzaj making the move up front though.

I think United have done well — Shaw, Herrera, Rojo, Di Maria, Blind and Falcao is good business for sure. Once we’re finally able to field a decent team we’ll be able to show the rest why we’re definite top 4 contenders…I hope.

They better do bloody well for the combined price you paid for all of them! Far out!

Chelsea will walk the league if they carry on like this and Costa stays injury free.

Any English Championship fans on here? I’m a Reading fan and we finally look like we’re getting started this season. We’ve had about 9 first 11 out injured but we’re starting to get a few back now. Ryan Edwards (aus u-23) has finally got into the first team. Quite like look of him, he could do well for us this season.

Not a reading fan but I’m always following our aussies overseas. Hopefully Federici also makes the most of his opportunity as first team keeper.
I don’t think Ryan got to play yesterday but it would be awesome if he could cement a starting spot over the course of the season.

He came on at 80 minutes. He seems to be in Adkins matchday squad, even if he doesn’t get to start. I’m hoping he gets to play more now and makes the most of his chances. He deserves to start more than Akpan in my opinion.  I think that if/when we get Guthrie, McCleary, Robson-Kanu back he’ll be relegated to the bench again if we continue our push for promotion( most thought this season was a right off due to injuries/sales/botched takeover)
I’d like to have seen his brother Cameron before we let him go but it didn’t happen.

As for Federici, he’ll be number one all season now that McCarthy has gone. Our other keepers are OK, but he’s leagues above them. I just wish he’d make more sensible saves instead of going for the spectacular.

I enjoy watching Championship matches whenever I can, always a much tighter comp than the Prem which is awesome…I’ve got a bunch of friends who live in East Anglia and are diehard Norwich supporters so I’ve got a soft spot for them…I hope they make it back into top flight.

Speaking of making it back into the top flight, how about Fulham? 1 point from 7 games…if they keep this up they’ll go down again. Terrible management. It’s a top 6 squad.
