Whistler. What to do between job fair and season start?
As in Rhys’ link, the camber profiles are important. As a beginner / intermediate you are right in looking at an all mountain board.
All mountain normally means it can handle pow / park and groomers all pretty decently and is a great choice for an intermediate rider.
As you aren’t super skinny, you’ll probably need a longer board. I’m slightly shorter and lighter than you and can get away with anything as short as a 153 for park, 155 for all mountain or a 158 pow board. For you I’d add 2cm minimum to all those and for an all mountain board I’d be trying to get something around a 157-158 which should serve you well for the winter season.
That being said, the other issue is your foot size. If you are size 13 or above you’ll need a wide board and anything 11-13 you’ll want something above 250mm wide (waist width)

Im actually a ’ Bloody POM’ so i wont be buying from aus. I fly out to vancouver in about 2 weeks. Buying a board over in whistler just seems so much more conveniant.
Theres just one more thing i need help with…..
INSURANCE! Can i buy it when im in canada? Im struggling to find any companies in england that want to insure me for months worth of snowboarding (probably understandable)

If you’re working while you’re out there you’ll need insurance to get your visa when you land. I grabbed a quote from flexicover for 12 months working with 6 months winter sports. It came to around £300 with discount code twt25.
I saw a few people on britishexpats had used them.

Hey mate,
That’s no problem at all. I would still recommend the same board (or similar). You’ll definitely be able to pick up something suitable in Whistler. Just make sure you start a new thread with the options the shops suggest you, so we can help you make an informed decision (some shop workers over there talk shit to be honest).
In regards to travel insurance, I’ve used World Nomads a few times in the past and they have been really good (and pretty cheap too). I think they do policies for anywhere in the world, from anywhere in the world etc. Worth having a look at. Im riding the 2015 YES Basic at the moment.
Doing the season at Perisher, iv had a pretty good chance to ride this board in all conditions.
Pow, park, groomers,.
The pop you can get out of it is amazing, it’s flex rating is a 5, so its pretty forgiving at times, but still flexy enough to jib and press whenever needed.
Iv always riden traditional camber, this board is Hybrid I think. Traditional in the middle, flat under your feet then reverse at the tips. I wouldn’t be able to fault the board at all
It does go thru wax tho.. Im waxing every 2-3days of riding.
I’ll most likely buy a new model next year, if not the same board.
