PRACTICED ACCIDENTS - Perisher Blog 2014

What deano said might not be what u want to hear but I can’t emphasise enough that he’s right. I broke my back in the park and although I was snowboarding again within six weeks, I think it was another 4 before I rode any park, give it 6weeks mate, lickarse and bluecow are more than enough to fuck u up and piper might be worse cause the features are small u have to spin harder to make rotations. Everyone wants to be able to make a quicker than expected recovery but more often ur better of on the side of caution.

Thank you Deano and NBG

I wanted to say something but didn’t want to be a debbie downer!

By all means go out there and have fun but please don’t push your limits AT ALL!

Its just not worth it.

Good advice.
I’ll be making an early snow return after a broken radius.
3 weeks post break.  But I’ve been working really hard on rapid healing (bone broth, supplements, comfrey cream), and I’ll be riding in a thermoplastic cast….and not participating in the park event I’d planned on, nor pushing it on piste.  It’ll be cruisey runs only.
Knees are a bugger to get right ... And very easy to screw up all your hard work if you push it too quick.
You want to be doing this for a long time!

Damn, I almost feel guilty for hitting parks yesterday and coming back to read these posts.. Seriously appreciate the advice from everyone but I kept it pretty simple and had no troubles knee wise clap clap

Ended up lapping leichardt from 9:00 till 2:00 haha, that stoked to be back in the air! Swear I must have done 10 or so laps that were just shifty, back 3, method over the 3 jump line haha. Might sound boring to some but I was having a blast v  tongue

Got another physio appointment on Tuesday and hoping to get the medical OK to get back to riding. But since you guys have made me think twice about long term knee issues, I think I’ll try my best to keep it pretty simple for a while..

What might help me keep it simple is learning new straight air grabs. What are your favorites?? Ive only just started to get methods and they would have to be my favorite at the moment. Ill be up again next weekend and will try and get some footage so list some grabs for me to try!!

Peace v

Crail!

I can’t do them but I wish I could. I think they look sick.

Haha damn cords, definitely not the easiest grab but I’m willing to give it a crack!  metal

How about a double grab? Melon and indy together is sick because your can pull your board right up. Pete Long does these super well.

I honestly don’t understand why you would attempt anything new after being recently injured…

Yeah that photo makes that grab look wicked! Might give it a whirl!

OZ, straight air grabs are the easiest thing I can think of to try. When I went the other day straight air grabs were fun (cause I never do them) and fairly knee friendly (cause for the most part legs are aligned under my body and the stresses from landing spins arent there)  grin

Accepting risk such as this is one of the reasons why some progress quickly and others do not.

Yep, but a couple more weeks to get the all clear from the Dr before attempting any new trick is a smart move I think.

Would hate to injure myself again and take myself out for the rest of the season or possibly longer.

But each to his own I guess!

i call BS on this…

you can injure your self from even the easiest trick. I would prefer to take time off recover and then go out and go hard…

I though the same thing as you AJ while i was playing soccer and every time i went against recommendation from doctors or clus physios i screwed my self more.

Yeah, but soccer injuries are different cause they’re normally caused by over actin or bein bitten by another player!!!!!

Not at all saying I know better than professionals, but thats why first day back I strictly rode groomers, just to see how the knee went. Turns out it rode well. The week after I hit a few jumps, still felt good so I threw some spins I’m really comfortable with. Knee is still feeling really good. Not saying the knee is fixed yet or that I’m right or whatever but I’m trying to take care of myself while still having fun! Seems that not everyone agrees haha.

Just FYI too, Ive been straight up murdering the rehab exercises!  muscle
