Hi Guys,

What a season its turning out to be! Snowfalls out the wazoo and Perisher’s park crew absolutely killing it, offering everyone a decent option to progress their freeriding.

Hate to turn a positive post sour so quickly but I have some bad news that has devastated my most anticipated season yet. Just returning from the physio this afternoon, advised I have a grade 2 tear of my medial ligament on my left knee (see below). Although the fall itself was painful, the confirmation of the injury from professionals hurts all that much more. Truly gutted.

Looking at a minimum 6 week recovery and trying to figure out where Practiced Accidents 2014 goes from here – I’ll keep you posted.

The highs and lows of snowboarding..

For anyone interested in the fall itself, here is a long-winded explanation.

I had been lapping FV park all morning, it was beautiful - sunny, hardly a breath of wind and the park was stacked! Its times like these that makes riding the vibing, fun activity that I love. Lapping like a champ, only pausing to watch my skier mate stomp his first 900 (congrats big horse), I was in my element. Still getting my legs back on decent sized booters since whistler I was opting for my go-to back 3 on all jumps and saving the creativity for the rails. Anyway, coming into the bottom jump you had to have speed from quite high in the park. Especially if you spin like me and soft-carve off the kicker, washing speed.. Approaching the rails before the drop-in for the last jump a skier eyes up the jump and drops from below me, even though it’s obvious the jump is my goal. Naturally, I politely shout my drop-in and proceed to overtake him and his crew. But the damage had been done, my concentration was left behind, somewhere in my track, with my new skier buddy.. :/ Coming off the lip I knew my rotation was wrong and my axis was shifting further and further away from a flat spin. Anyway ended up landing on my back and jarring my leg, causing the tear. Spent the remainder of my day icing my knee and playing buck hunter in bottom pub.

The highs and lows..

Thanks for the kind words all, nah Rick not looking to sell my pass.

Update:
Its been 2 weeks since the injury and I’m currently off crutches and walking quite comfortably, which is giving me confidence! I’m booked into see my physio tomorrow and will hopefully get the go ahead to begin some more exercises and get some strength back. Secretly hoping I can recover in time for a my mates birthday in 2 weeks. Even if I cant ride park just looking to slide around, see how I go. Otherwise it’ll be a big weekend of drys!  beers  metal

I’ve only just caught up on this. I’m really sorry to hear it tracvks.
That bottom jump is shaped nicely this year, but she’s not small, that’s for sure.
Fingers crossed for a quick recovery bro!

Thanks again for the kind words guys! Seems to have helped the recovery process punch

Update:
I am now 4 weeks post injury and finally at the stage where I can do agility style exercises, this is improving my strength heaaaps.. The only pain I’ve encountered is at the physio when they are pushing and pulling my knee out of place haha. Anyway, over the weekend, without permission from the physio, I headed up to perisher for my mates b’day. Suchhh a good day on snow! Did a bit of a pub-to-pub while cruising groomers. I was super happy by the end of the day with my knee handling anything I threw at it (even though it was HEAVILY strapped). Super excited by the prospect of returning to the park, which I plan to do this weekend. Looking to lap the baby parks at piper/bluecow/leichardt so if anyone is doing the same, hit me up!

Shit mate i will only say it once to ya, but id highly reccomend you dont go out hitting park.

When i dislocated/broke my ankle i was at physio with a guy who did what you are doing now but skateboarding. He didnt heal and went back boarding and injured it again and now his knee is beyond fucked. He has less than half the range of motion a normal person has and will never get it back. Also arthritis is a high possibility of turning up in his knee at an early age.

At the end of the day its your call, but i know what i would be doing. I babied my ankle for 8 months before i even thought about doing any boarding, wakeboarding etc.
