Just bought my 1st helmet today :D
Look out 60ft booter, here i come
I’m a non-wearer.
Sort of like Tills, I bought one ages ago when I was learning, but then when I did my first season I stopped for some reason, just laziness mostly. Now when I put it on it just feels uncomfortable and the helmet itself looks silly, I dunno why I thought it looked good when I bought it. Most of the time I look stupid anyway so that isn’t the main problem . I think it just feels rather than a confidence booster, like its the opposite. I feel like I’m deciding I’m going to crash when I put it on. Its like a distraction somehow because it feels so weird & uncomfortable.
I wear one all the time downhill mtn biking (obv!) but that can also be a distraction. Today I swapped helmets with fred and his one had a red visor and (mine is black) and I couldn’t stop looking at the visor instead of looking where I was going, because it was different and stood out more.
I’m 100% on the everyone should wear one bandwagon, I just haven’t made myself be one of those people yet! I don’t feel like I’ putting myself in danger when I ride without one because I mostly ride well within my limits and when I do try something I haven’t done before (increasingly rare) I’m confident I can do it before I try.
As mentioned by others, that self-awareness doesn’t protect me from other dingbats, though.
As for the pros - they only wear them when they have to at contests, and I can’t see that changing any time soon.
???
what would you like to know Stella?
In another not so best keep BW secret I am friends with Rachel (the journalist who owns that site) she was with me on Saturday, go back an article and there is photos of me from the Rossi Ladies day.
The incident is the one I mention in my first post.

Look at Michael Shumaker (spelling) he certainly wasn’t doing kickers or anything gnar!!!
Distraction and thinking you’re going to hurt yourself doesn’t fly with me

true - but after what we saw on the weekend its hard for it not to be.
As I said in my first post I had been sitting on my hands until I was less emotional about the topic.
Especially on this forum where at least 90% of the regular posters I know IRL life - hell I had dinner with 8 of them last night!
Ask DRC about the epic fb msg he got bombarded with whilst he was in NZ after the string of incidents earlier in the season!

Haha I considered myself well and truly warned, it kept me busy in my cold campervan with limited data! I’m borderline more scared of the telling off I’ll get from Kim if I ever survive an avalanche or the tree I wrap myself around but at least I’ll know it’s all out of care and love!
Got my new helmet yesterday, fits snug as a bug probably better than my last helmet which has served me well. Only concern is the ear pads are way more heavy duty and I can already tell I can hear way less of my surroundings. I’ll probably be saying a lot of “huhs?” and “excuse me’s” to my unlucky riding buddies but I am hoping it doesn’t drop my awareness of other punters sharing the slopes as hearing them coming has always been a good warning.
What did you get DRC?? Ooweee

I’ve been using a Bern Watts for the past couple of years but it’s had a few hits and is showing it’s age
My new helmet is a Anon Blitz which seems to be a better fit and slightly lower profile, goes great with my APXs goggles only concern is the earpads blocking a lot of sound. It’s also very grey so needs some stickering
