So I did my homework and proposed the idea of going to Nis with the guys I travel with. It was over their budget so we kinda settled on going to Hakuba or Shiga Kogen instead, with the assumption that that’ll be cheaper than having to get a domestic flight to Sapporo. I’m kinda miffed but I hope the total for that trip (which includes a bullet train ride) would amount to the same as the Nis trip.
If we still dont get to Nis, then I’ll have to go at it alone. I’ve done my homework and I’ll be damned if it goes to waste dammit!
Bullet train is HELL expensive.. Also keep in mind you have to shuffle around to get to Hakuba.. THE OTHER THING
In Niseko you can ride on hour passes rather than days.. So means you might save more that way? Just a thought,
Hakuba has Cortina, Niseko has well, Strawberry fields…

Seriously its not that expensive…
How much are your international flights?
Do you get so super amazing jetstar deal?
If not have a look around - and for the MILLIONTH time there is the Visit Japan pass.
https://www.jal.co.jp/yokosojapan/ only a travel agent can book this for you in conjunction with your international fare. some are aware of it some aren’t send em this link.
the train is very expensive too. (as Stella said)
Okay - Talk to me about Myoko….
I think it is on the short list!
Bumping this
Yeah, the Shink is definitely not a cheaper option than a domestic flight!!!!!
And the transit times are much of a muchness as well!!!!!
The only thing you’ll most likely save on is accommodation!!!!!
Bullet train is HELL expensive
Or an absolute bargain with a JR pass!

I have a pretty busy night ahead so can’t go into it too much ATM but it is probably my favourite place for snow in Japan so far and I plan to go back one day.
It is purely a small snow town with pretty much zero apres other than one main strip with a few izakaya/restaurants (decent food and drink).
It’s not a place I recommend for first timers to Japan as you need to know some of the customs/language before getting there but if you want pow/trees to yourself it’s a good option.
It did get a little isolating after a week by myself but on the other hand I found Nozawa Onsen (which if you haven’t done yet I’d also short list or do both in one trip like me) so full on straight after it and I took a couple of days to readjust.
Worth a visit, not for too long, realise it’s going to be quite early nights, hope to get lots of snow.
Can highly recommend Hotel MOC for location/price.
Ask away if you have any questions.
View from the hotel the building in the middle is the gondola
Apres for days
Lift lines sucked
Parking was a nightmare
On mountain nomnoms
And the obligatory video post, All snow footage is Myoko up to the 4min mark which is Nozawa.
Go away Dave!!!!!
Ya bringin me down!!!!!

——JR Pass only cheap if you actually USE it.. Most people only use it twice, one to get to mountain, one to get back.. haha
Niseko has well, Strawberry fields…
And SO much more!!

Haha sorry mate you know I can’t help myself. Digging through my photos has only made me more keen for Hokkaido 15/16!

Such a shame if that’s the case. Being in such an amazing country and not even taking the time to experience Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka etc, My memories of Japan’s cities manage to rank higher than the amazing pow!
Having said that when you add the cost of the two Shinkansen trips plus the Narita Express both ways you are pretty much already breakeven/ahead by getting the pass.
On the other hand I also agree with the others. Ruling out Hokkaido because of the domestic flight (which appears to be rather painless and affordable) seems a bit silly.
Niseko has well, Strawberry fields…
And SO much more!!
Except you this season!
But i understand
but it is why i am considering Myoko… i might have company there.
Looking forward to hitting Niseko in Jan!! First Japow trip!
Cant wait to sink into some deep stuff!!! Yeeww!
If funds come together by October / November I could be well on my way to Japan for a 2 week holiday sometime early next year as well. (or over Christmas / NYE if work makes me take time off.
It’s all coming up Millhouse!
