STREET LEAGUE SKATEBOARDING 2014 — STOP 1: NIKE SB COMPOUND
Street League Skateboarding begins its 2014 season today at 8am Sydney time (10pm GMT) with the first event from Nike SB’s private compound. This event will act as a qualifier, with 20 non-SLS pros aiming to snap up the last 3 spots on the tour. Day 1 of the event will consist of these 20 skaters battling it out against each other, with the top 8 advancing to day 2 for a shot against the SLS pros.
The format has gone back to its roots this year, with 3 different sections all equally weighted. This means that the more technical skaters are at no disadvantage, since they will be able to skate any section they want, instead of being confined to the “big” section for the last round. Check out what Torey has to say about the changes:
The regular SLS pros will all be competing, including the likes of Chris Cole, Nyjah Huston, Shane O’Neill, Torey Pudwill, Dylan Rieder and newcomer Andrew Reynolds, along with loads more. The 20 skaters who will battle for the final 3 spots include Collin Provost, Curren Caples, David Gravette, Felipe Gustavo, Justin Brock, Figgy, Riley Hawk, Wes Kremer, Youness Amrani and more. It’s definitely going to be a super tight contest.
As usual, you can watch the action live here: http://streetleague.com

Practice Highlights
Im stoked on the format this time. Not just depending on the big section at the end to decide. I think it will make the skaters push harder in their area and the others too
RESULTS - DAY ONE
Semi-Final Qualifiers
1. Matt Berger – 31.6
2. Alec Majerus – 29.8

Non Qualifiers
9. Colin Provost – 22.5
10. David Gravette – 22.4
11. Evan Smith – 22.3
12. Justin Brock – 20.8
13. Curren Caples – 20.2
14. Daryl Angel – 19.2
15. Wes Kremer – 14.4
16. Jake Donnelly – 5.6
Definitely some surprises today. I thought Berger and Majerus might scrape into the top 8 but they absolutely killed it. I’ll admit I didn’t see Matt’s run but Alec didn’t bail a trick and finished it off with a kicky front blunt down the big rail, so I’m assuming Matt’s tricks/runs were something special.
I would have expected Curren to make it through along with Justin Brock considering they usually do well in contests. The biggest shock though was probably Evan Smith, a lot of people had him as the favourite to qualify at the top, but he obviously couldn’t produce his usual consistency today. Everyone killed it though, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of these guys win the contest over the usual pros.
Day two action is live. Catch the live stream here.
Today we’ll see all the regulars taking on the eight pros who made it through qualifying yesterday. Expect plenty of action from the likes of Nyjah Huston, Chris Cole, Chaz Ortiz, Shane O’Neill, Ryan Sheckler, Paul Rodriguez and more.

It was definitely an incredible contest. I was backing Ishod all the way, but with tricks like the ones Nyjah pulled off it was a fair result. He’s unstoppable.

Nyjah was furiously booed when it was announced he had won…after watching the replay I can definitely see why. Luan was terribly underscored and pulled off by far the most uniquely difficult tricks Street League has ever seen. Nyjah did his same old tricks and won, again. It’s starting to become a battle for second.
Shane should have come in second behind Luan. This was the highest scored trick in the event:
I didn’t watch it and kind of think its a wanker tbh…Nyjah is a poster boy for the commercial world and if you put him in first it looks great for skateboarding. He does the same shit every competition.
