Im going to be there either sat or sun next week. Havent been in years!
Nice if you’re low on people to ride with hit me up I’ll hopefully be there Sat/Sun/Mon.
Will be there either sat/sun with my missus, her friends and Mike and his missus. Will meet up for sure.
Not gonna lie, getting pretty bloody excited about the upcoming weekend!
Not overly impressed with Thredbo after the weekend to be honest. Lift lines weren’t great, ticket price seems a bit far fetched considering it has less than a third of the lifts and skiable terrain, the longer runs don’t really make up the shortfall for me. Was excited to see it again after 17years without a visit and was pretty disappointed with the conditions. Most fun I had was on some cat tracks, might been part of the super trail I think, didn’t make it over to merits but the icy conditions didn’t really have me interested in hitting the park.
The Kosciuszko express lift was good, seemed to run at full speed most of the time which I liked but was pretty busy to load. Some of it looked like it would be awesome on a POW day, specially slack country but I imagine inbound would get torn up pretty quick. Kinda feels more like a skiers mountain, more steeps and bumps, was only two main trails groomed to the bottom, the rest was hard moguls not real board friendly. Think I will be staying on the perisher season pass wagon for the foreseeable future with the odd trip to thredders on a POW day perhaps.
Maybe you should have come and ridden with the cool kids!
Perhaps it’s Thredbo’s marketing working but “I like it”
After being a Freedom pass holder for the past few years and Perisher being the first place I ever set foot on snow it was time for a change.
I’ve gotten lucky in the fact that it’s been a bumper season meaning the whole mountain is open which I know can be a big ask at Thredbo in the not so good seasons. Perisher definitely handles this better via a combination of altitude + snow making.
I enjoyed what seemed to be bigger/steeper/longer runs resulting in some burning legs at times. The snow quality wasn’t fantastic (the weekends weather contributed a lot to that) but coverage was good.
I didn’t love not knowing the mountain like the back of my hand (which was the case at Perisher) and bombing myself straight into mogul fields.
I was pleasantly surprised by the lift lines or lack there of (it probably helps that I can dart off into the singles line if needed) Overall lines were definitely no worse and probably better than I had got used to at Perisher.
I even spent Sunday as a park rat with Dylan and Mika which was good fun for someone who doesn’t usually venture into those parts. This is where I discovered where Thredbo is currently lacking. The small 8 jump cruiser park was probably a bit restrictive for me let alone Dylan and Mika but the next step up in the way of parks was a big jump up in size/ability. It would have been nice to have a more beginner/intermediate option to move onto.
I also enjoyed having a village to hangout in Apres style especially on Sunday night which was nice and quite. A leisurely swim and hot shower, followed by a few winter ciders by the fire pits and DJ, topped off with a nice hot dinner a couple more ciders while catching some gold medals on the TV. Close campgrounds are also a added convenience.
The main downside for me will definitely be the fact that most if not all of my regular riding buddies are Perisher pass holders so getting a slide in with them will be a rarity.
Fingers crossed I get to experience one of these “Aussie Pow Days” at some stage this season as there’s a few lines that looked like fun.
After hearing Dyldo and Mikes report on the day I’m glad i stayed away.
Not one good word was said from Dyldo I think!
Yea Sunday was a pretty big let down to be honest.
Coverage obviously wasn’t an issue, nor was viability, it was purely an unlucky string of weather, melt freeze for the second day in a row, plus the added kick in the balls of rain the previous day.
The merits park was abit off fun once everything softened up, but it definitely could have been alot better set up and maintained. Not to mention a big “GET THE FUCK OFF THE TAKEOFF AND LANDING” sign wouldn’t have gone astray.
Would’ve loved to hit high noon park because the jumps looked nicely built and a conformable size for me, but the fact they remained in the shade most of the day was a real shame. I rolled over the knuckles to find rock solid ice landings with some up to tennis ball size death cookies and you could see they struggled to groom them because there were 3 distinct cat tracks on each landing, the middle being lower because it’s obviously been bombed out when soft then frozen before they got there.
Only saw Anton’s park in the distance from the kosi chair, didn’t see anyone hitting it, suspect it was rock solid like high noon. So all I can really say about it is, it looked BIG
The last couple of hours in merits was fun, just mucked around practicing board control in the air, bones and shiftys, a couple of my worst ever front flip attempts, first not into pow tho, & some stuff on boxes, gap to front board, hand drag tail press back 1 off, back board
You’ll find that on days like you guys experienced, the higher elevations of Sponars, Antons, and The Basin will have better snow as it’ll be colder and kept from the thaw freeze, or if the temps in the village have stayed in the positives, the lower slopes off Snowgums Lift will stay soft and virtually uncrowded!!!!!
The main runs such as Highnoon, Supertrail, and the guts of Merrits will always be busy!!!!!
Venture away from these runs, and you’ll find much better conditions!!!!!
And I agree Dave, Pow days and Village Life of Thredders are epic!!!!! Wait till ya get to Whistler!!!!! It’s like Thredbo on roids!!!!!
If perisher could develop a village like thredbo it would be unstoppable, not sure why thredders is allowed to have such unfettered development when perisher struggles to get it DA’s pushed through and approved. IMO the village at thredbo is awesome and really quite big and spread out and more how I would imagine a euro resort to be. With that said I wont complain about perisher parking again, so easy in comparison and nowhere near as busy.
The runs themselves are like a lesson in altitude and what it does to the snow conditions, up top is hard as fuck while down low its chopped slush very early. Both resorts have their good points, im not one to stay on snow so thredbo s awesome village really doesn’t come into it, the runs are longer but far less of them, out of interest if perisher made some snaking cat tracks like thredbo has from the top of bluecow to the ridge quad they could greatly extend the length of runs if they were so inclined but that would require more earthworks they’re not allowed to do!
The small peep we got at the Northstar village was epic Mike,
anyone going to be around thredbo this weekend?
Its looking GOOOOOD!!!
The freezing line is under the bottom all day friday and beyond, and there looks to be a good amount of fresh on its way
Also its demo days in thredbo this weekend too
If i get the chance ill be demo’ing a Slash ATV & happy place, as well as a Jones Mountain twin. Try to aid my decision what to get for those steep, deep, charger days next season
I’m at Thredbo on Saturday - seems like I timed it well!
Will be an epic day me thinks!
My cousin (2nd from front) posted this on Facebook yesterday. She got photobombed on the chairlift @ Thredbo by none other than Torah Bright. Hey, they might have asked for this photo but I’m still calling it a photobomb.

So you have to install the app on your phone and log in. Someone tried to tell me you have to turn the data on to register the vertical miles but reading the T&C i don’t think this is right - i think it just that you can’t see if you have achieved the vertical otherwise…
