I have personally been trapped by this sort of mountain talk. I travelled 4.5hrs to ride to a mountain with holes in the runs and six lifts opens, four of which closed mid day due to conditions.
Yeah, it’s annoying this happens and I feel sorry for those who get suckered.
I never rely on the resorts’ snow reports. Actually, I barely ever check them unless maybe to check the snow depth or something.
It’s always better to rely on your own judgement based on reliable information from independent sites such as BoM etc.
It also invaluable actually talking to people who are at the resort. I know it’s not always easy but sites like Boardworld do make this more accessible.
I find it so funny when they say “packed powder” and really it’s just hardpack ice.
