Everything is open, and you’ll be happy to hear there was 10cm fresh snow last night and no signs of it letting up today. So much powder!!!!

Sweet!! enjoy!! yeah I just had a look at the cams and reports and there could be a little more on the way each night.

Are you going to Cardrona or TC at all?

Yeh planning to go to cardrona Thursday. It’ll be my first time so I’m looking forward to it.

Here’s some shots from Cardrona today. Best weather. Can’t believe how many parks they have there! Even had a pretty basic one for park beginners like me smile

Only downside was really slow lifts and still slightly patchy cover in places. I thought the terrain was a lot more varied than remarkables and coronet though which was good fun.

So much fun to be had there.

looks awesome!

So the forecast is for a bit of snow coming up but late next week its meant to be extremely windy! boooo urns

Any resorts which tend to be more sheltered from the wind than others?

Interesting question Stamford!

The problem is that all resorts are above the tree line so there is no protection…

Which resort gets less wind is dependent on which direction the wind is coming from I suppose!

But thats the great thing about Queenstown and the surrounding resorts.

CHOICE!

We headed up to Cardrona this morning but lifts were on hold due to strong winds so we headed over to remarks which is fine.. guess the mountains face different directions so itd depend which direction the wind is blowing.

Best timing as well, arrived at remarks just as they were having the official opening for the new chair so we got free champagne and hotdogs :D

yeah I thought that might be the case, but how do we know which one will be best? We don’t have a car we are relying on shuttles and the Cardrona/Treble cone will need to be booked the day before so Im just curious if anyone knows what direction wind is best for what etc. Most charts are showing Westerly winds and some NW too.

Just trying to gather as much info as I can before I get there!

Okay - I think Cardrona and Cornet Peak both are on the south eastern face of the mountain ranges so wind coming from behind ie (australia) they would be protected.

I think Remarks is on the Northern side of the range.

But what Air posted is critical - go look which way the wind is blowing today…

She is saying Remarks is fine. so note that.

(note this is all guess work for me as i haven’t skied in NZ since 2000)

Stamford.

Do you look at Mountain watch?

The arrows show the direction the wind is going.

So you are right it is Nor Westerlies and Westerlies…

So when you know tomorrow is the same then go to Remarks….

Ahh good point Ozgirl!
yeah that’s where I got the info from - mountain watch. I also check Snowatch but MW has more info.

Ok so todays wind is from the south but its going to flip late sunday to N so Cardrona and co might be the go for next week

LOL… Clearly I read wind wrong!

Today was strong SW winds if that helps? Remarkables was a bit windy but fine, Cardrona had lifts on hold but all lifts running by 11am.
