This thread is a bit of an experiment for now.
The idea is, we want you to give us the brand/model of a particular board you are interested in knowing more about. It would be helpful if you asked specific questions so we can address it properly. Please only ask questions that haven’t been addressed on their official sites etc.
We will then try to get the reps to reply directly to you with the information you are seeking.
I can’t guarantee you this will work as intended, but we’ve had good success with this in the past, so shoot through your requests and we will do our best.
Well I still want to know more about the Yes The Standard. There doesn’t seem to be much official info yet. I’ve been told it’s stiffer than a barn door with Viagra rubbed on it but it still has me intrigued. So specifically, just how stiff is it and what is its intended use?
Hey Guys - I am obviously the (completely biased) YES. rep, and I am stoked to be a part of this thread/idea! Well done JEZ.
THE STANDARD (1415 model) ; this board came to creation in a fairy ‘organic’ way I suppose, and here is the inside scoop…..as it turns out, Romain DeMarchi was getting the factory to produce him the YES. BASIC, but with a total upgrade to the board’s bill of materials - so a “team spec” BASIC if you will. The factory was making his boards with best base available, the best glass available, and a much lighter/stiffer core. (As I am sure everyone is aware, Romain’s riding style commands a fairly aggressive board!) And being one of the owners of YES owners, Romain decided that if the board was important to him, then it was important enough to include in the brands line up (regardless of how many units were sold). And thus, THE STANDARD was born. They also integrated into its construction the “pre bent rails” that THE ASYM had (the 1314 model), and anyone who rode / flexed that board can attest to it being an absolute power house (this technology creates quite a bit of ‘tension’ in the core, that is very very very evident by how dynamic & solid this board rides). Definitely a board for some one charging, or some one who has aspirations to, and is prepared to push themselves to get there).
So I hope this description helps unravel some of the ‘mystery’. I can say that only 6 of these boards made it into AUS/NZ this year - and there was a tremendous amount of hype surrounding it aided by all the YES. team’s exposure while riding on it (including Clint Allan’s cover of the first issue of Transfer this year) - so I think this board will be one to watch in future!

Can you explain a bit more about the directional volume twin thing on the Standard. Based on looking at the spec it is identical, not sure what makes it more “directional” float but twin shape? Is it just the nose has a higher kick?

Just one more question - how do you reckon the Standard would ride in pow? I guess the same would apply to the Basic since it’s the same profile?
For sure - the DIRECTIONAL VOLUME TWIN concept is actually super simple & effective…..so hopefully my explanation is easy to understand! Here goes…
It works on the premise that there are quite a few snowboard markets in the world that are very “twin orientated” whereby most riders prefer to ride twins (versus directionals), but still demand a certain amount of ‘powder float’ for when conditions permit (or when they go overseas hunting POW!). SO—- how a board rides on hard snow is largely determined by everything between the “tip’s contact points” and the “tail’s contact points” - anything outside this area (which of course is the tip & tail) therefore doesn’t really come into play unless you are in soft snow. SO——- by keeping the TIP surface area normal, yet reducing the TAIL surface area (by making it slightly shorter & more tapered / pointy’) you get a TWIN that will float more like a directional board once it hits snoft snow and begins to call on the surface area of the tip & tail…...this concept is very effective and very logical - it started on THE BASIC, and was very quickly added onto THE STANDARD (& THE GHOST which is Tadashi’s pro model - and as we all know, tadashi charges serious pow but due to his skate influence he only wants to do it on a twin!!)

Hey Mudhoney - I think the STANDARD will be great in the JAPOW due to following 3 points;
1. the above mentioned DIRECTIONAL VOLUME TWIN tech,
2. the Rockered tip / tail profile that we use in CAMrock,
3. the fact that you can certainly mount the bindings back as well if needed!
Also, worth noting is that the stiffness/power of this board will mean that you will BLAST through any crud/chop effortlessly. Go Big!!!

Mudhoney - awesome question, but unfortunately I do not have (an accurate) answer at this stage.
If we place a special order (from europe) for a 1415 STANDARD them it would definitely arrive in time for a JAPAN mission (provided stock is available!!!).

Only did 2 days on Aussie Hardpack so its a little to early to tell whether I like it as much as its predecessor the HKD!!!!!
I did feel as though the micro camber is not as aggressive as my old versions camber!!!!!
Unfortunately I have to wait a while before I can test it out in the deep stuff!!!!! By then it’ll be we’ll and truly superseded!!!!!
