Optical Illusions

Avatar

I just saw this on IFL Science. Do you see a wheel moving inside a circle?

Optical illusions typically prey on your mind’s ability to fill in blanks in the visual stimulus it is receiving. Sometimes this can be so strong, your mind continues to be tricked even after it has been explained. Case in point: this video from brusspup, purveyor of mind-melting illusions.

The video looks like a wheel made out of eight white circles is rolling around inside of a large, red circle. That’s not what is actually happening, as the video will explain:

Add an optical illusion below.

These ones are pretty cool as they just mess with your mind..

(this one doesn’t move any where near as much as the first… But it still looks awesome)

I’ve had both of those as screen savers on my phone at some stage…

But these have to be my fave,

They are steriographs. (same concept as when you film in 3d on the gopro)  you take two photos (one for the left eye and one for the right eye) and put them side by side..

Now the trick to these is like those hidden images you looked at as a kid.. You put the image in front of your face, and you look at the cross eyed and focus on the middle.. And the images blend into one, and become 3d, really cool!!  (I wana do one at the snow..  )

I’ve never had any problems with the magic-eye 3D images, but I can’t seem to get the image above to work.  angry

I get it first go…  (I do these alot though…)

Get close to it, so its all you can see. And when you go cross eyed look at the white water at the bottom of the cliff. Then slowly move back..  hopefully that works?

Not really optical illusions as such but Ive always been drawn to the penrose stair and the penrose triangle. It something about the impossibility of them that interests me I think..

Also, this depth perception one from brusspup. Has to be the most tricked/amazed ive ever been with an optical illusion
