This is unbelievably tragic and incomprehensible. RIP to all those 298 on board who lost their lives, and my heart goes out to all the families involved.
Seriously, what is wrong with the world? Why on earth would anyone try to shoot down an airliner carrying innocent civilians from all over the world? The plane was shot down at 10,000m. There was obviously planning and sophistication to the operation.
Just horrible. Another sad day in human history.
(CNN)—A Malaysia Airlines passenger jet crashed in a rebel-controlled part of eastern Ukraine on Thursday, spurring swift accusations from Ukrainian officials that “terrorists” shot down the aircraft.
The United States has concluded a missile shot down the plane, but hasn’t pinpointed who was responsible, a senior U.S. official told CNN’s Barbara Starr.
The Boeing 777 with 298 people aboard fell from the sky near the town of Torez in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, officials said. A top Ukrainian official said the plane, which was on the way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was flying at about 10,000 meters (nearly 33,000 feet) when the missile hit.
A radar system saw a surface-to-air missile system turn on and track an aircraft right before the plane went down, the senior U.S. official said. A second system saw a heat signature at the time the airliner was hit, the official said. The United States is analyzing the trajectory of the missile to try to learn where the attack came from, the official said.
The Obama administration believes Ukraine did not have the capability in the region—let alone the motivation—to shoot down the plane, a U.S. official told CNN’s Jake Tapper.
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said the plane never made a distress call.

It’s disgusting and ignorant. I don’t know how long people have to be at war for to know it’s not worth it. You have the innocent people die in the plane being shot down and also Gaza escalating like a bunch of school kids in a playground “He hit me first! No you hit me first!”
Gaza is another story. It’s an unimaginable nightmare when only one side legitimately wants peace (not talking about the civilians but those in power). Don’t get me started on this…
Its a mess. Im the same they should all be snowboarding instead of playing with weapons.
Believe it or not, there actually is snow in Israel and other parts of the Middle East.
They acted like heroes when they thought it was a military plane, but it looks like shit quickly turned when they realised what they’d really done. They’re trying to cover their tracks. I hope justice comes out of this, but I’m worried it won’t. Makes me sick.
What the fuck is wrong with people?????
My thoughts go out to the families!!!!!
* Nothin much else to say, as this kind of stuff is somethin that shouldn’t be goin on in this day and age, yet it’s obvious that it’ll never cease!!!!! Humans hey?????
From what I’ve been reading online it seems like the Russian Militia have been shooting down Ukraine cargo planes the last week. It looks like they have accidentally confused this plane with another cargo plane.
It could have been any plane, But how unlucky that it was another Malaysian one
An absolute tragedy :( and made even worse by the fact it was entirely avoidable. From what I have read it seems that they should have known it was a passenger plane as the only missiles capable of hitting a target at that range have in built warnings if they are locked on to passenger jets. Either it was intentional or the people using it had no idea what they were doing, which is an equally frightening thought. My heart goes out to all the families and friends of the passengers and crew aboard the flight. I can not even begin to imagine what they must all be going through right now.
Just found out that one of the Aussies that were on board was both my daughters high school teacher!!!!! :(
He was a really friendly guy, always said g’day to me whenever we crossed paths in the local streets!!!!!
He was with his wife on the flight!!!!!
RIP “Mr Clancy”!!!!!
I had to speak to a number of family members of the victims today at work. It was absolutely heartbreaking :(
And one of the former pathologists i used to work with was on board also, with his wife. He was such a good guy and a great doctor.
We just need this to stop.

This is a wholleeee other kettle of fish. Neither side is blameless in that conflict - both have broken ceasefire agreements at various times and it is an absolute nightmare. The more the conflict goes on, the more extremism on both sides flourishes.
I can’t help but wonder though what would happen if Israel just let palestine be palestine instead of concerted efforts to place settlers there and continue to reduce palestinian land until there is almost nothing/nothing left?
A coworker was on that plane.
His department was understandably sullen at the shock of losing him.
I’m so incredibly sorry for your losses. Watching the news this afternoon was heartbreaking.

I think it’s important to really understand what’s going on there, and also the history of the conflict. I am by no means an expert on this topic, but this is what i do know…
Israel has made many attempts to swap land for peace and has done so with other Arab neighbours in past. Israel wants peace and wants to live in peace with a Palestinian state. Unfortunately, Israel is the only side that wants peace. Hamas is a terrorist organisation, as recognised by many countries around the world, and they just so happen to be in power in Gaza. Hamas has been committing war crimes under the Rome Statute: they have fired thousands of rockets indiscriminately at civilians in Israel, and they have been using CIVILIAN human shields to protect their rocket sites and terrorist tunnels. Israel has been following all international guidelines to protect civilian lives in Gaza. They drop leaflets, they make phone calls, they give warnings before targeted attacks—but Hamas tells their civilians to stay; they want civilian deaths as it helps their cause. It’s absolutely disgusting and the civilians in Gaza are victims of their own regime! Instead of using aid money to build their cities, they use the money to built terror networks to attack Israel. They are oppressing their own people. Hamas will not stop until Israel is wiped off the face of the earth. How do you deal with an enemy like that?
“Hamas was perfectly well aware what would happen if they started raining rockets on Israel. They fired a thousand of them, and they have a strategy designed to force Israel to kill their own civilians so that the rest of the world will condemn them.” — Bill Clinton a few days ago.
During the recent “ceasefire” Israel stop all military operations for six hours. During that time, 50 rockets were fired into Israel. All ceasefires have been accepted by Israel, but the rockets do not stop! Hamas wants nothing more than the total destruction of Israel. They deny Israel’s right to even exist. Giving them land has never stopped the violence. Israel isn’t the only country that believes Hamas must be defeated for peace to exist and for Palestinians to have their own state which they deserve. Please don’t forget that Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East!
Here are two videos worth watching if you are interested in knowing the history…
Like everyone else, I want to see the violence end. I want to see peace and I want to see a Palestinian state. I feel incredibly sorry for the Palestinian civilians being oppressed by their own government. Unfortunately, both sides have to want peace for it to happen. If you don’t condemn terrorism in one part of the world, how can you condemn terrorism in others?
There’s always gonna be some group of half wits that are never happy with how much land they have!!!!!
Been goin on for millennia, and unfortunately it ain’t gonna stop!!!!!
Personally I think that religion (or under the guise of religion) is the main crux of the overwhelming majority of conflicts!!!!!
Physical opposition to a differing belief = Racism at its finest!!!!!
