Travis Rice’s Next Snowboard Film - Day 1 On Location

Avatar

This is massive news and I just peed my pants a little with excitement. The sequel to the Art of Flight and Thats it, Thats all is currently being filmed on location!

Travis and Redbull Media House have changed snowboarding movies forever. No doubt their next instalment will go above and beyond Thats it, Thats all and The Art of Flight.. As hard as that sounds to do….

I think ive just discovered every form of stoke/froth/happy/excitement there is! Cant wait for this banger to drop!

Heres a sneak peak of whats to come. Enjoy!

From the producers of the game changing snowboard films “That’s It, That’s All” and “The Art of FLIGHT,” Red Bull Media House, in association with Brain Farm Digital Cinema, are proud to announce production of the next feature in Travis Rice’s iconic franchise. The multiple-year project will build upon the success of these earlier films, employing higher levels of cinematography, the use of cutting edge technology, rich storytelling, and exploring even more remote and untouched locations than ever before.

“This film is an incredibly ambitious project,” says Travis Rice while currently shooting on location. “After pushing the limits in ‘The Art of FLIGHT’ we knew that it would be tough to take it to the next level without seriously getting out there. I can’t reveal where we’re going yet, but I can say we are headed into the unknown, and it’s an entirely new approach to following winter for me. Our team is going all in on this one.”

The project will continue to push the limits of film technology and be shot entirely in 4K ultra high-definition. 4K has twice the horizontal and vertical resolution as the current high-definition format, with four times the amount of pixels and detail of HD overall (8 million pixels for 4K compared to 2 million pixels for HD). This is incredibly important when showcasing the level of realism on screen in order to highlight the action and nature shots as they are intended. Each 4K camera setup being used weighs approximately 60 pounds and has to be carried into the backcountry, with some shoots requiring up to 5 cameras.

“We’ve spent almost 2 years now on pre-production and logistical planning for this film,” says Curt Morgan, Founder of Brain Farm Digital Cinema. “Between scouting new locations, developing our storyline, and working on the creative aspects, I feel the time invested will be the differentiating factor in this production.”

Both “That’s It, That’s All” and “The Art of FLIGHT” have changed the viewers’ perception and expectation of what a snowboard film can be, not only through the latest camera technology, but also through creative camera angles, progressive riding, and carefully curated soundtracks, all helping to make “The Art of FLIGHT” the best selling snowboard documentary to date.

“While we’re proud of the reaction from all the fans around the world as well as the success the franchise has had thus far, we don’t want to rest on our laurels,” says Scott Bradfield, Head of Production for Red Bull Media House. “4K is certainly the future of cinema and we want to be ahead of the curve and provide a state-of-the-art experience for our viewers unlike anything seen to date. We’re incredibly excited to kick off this next project and between the locations, toys, and talent of all the athletes, filmers and producers, we can’t wait to deliver fans a film beyond their wildest expectations.

What did you guys think of The Art of FLIGHT? I have watched them both 6 times plus but I feel The Art of FLIGHT wasn’t that ground breaking for me. It felt like recycled material from That’s It, That’s All. I can’t wait to see the next installment though Brain Farm is a top media house (CEO Curtis Morgan) and they also have Ty Evans now so he might bring some thing different.

I loved it. It was the cinematic style that did it for me. It just had an epic feel to it, and the soundtrack and riding wasn’t that bad either. wink

Yeah I found it epic due to the cinematography, no so much as a snowboard video. That beind said though, it was still pretty rad in that regard too.
A snowboard flick on 4K should be all kinds of epic. I will have to invest in a new tv me thinks!!

I’ve watched the Art of Flight maybe like 30 times or more. I disagree with treadpants, I think it’s as much a snowboard movie as others like Absinthe. The riding was out of this world.

If Ty Evans is involved you can bet it will be even more focused on the cinematic side over tricks. Poor dude was basically kicked out of Crailtap in a mutiny over his “cinematography first, tricks second” mindset during Pretty Sweet. Lots of dislike for him in the skate world of late, will be interesting to see what he does with this Brainfarm stuff.

Yeah right! Plus with Travis the rider, It will surely be a BIGTIME EPIC!

I think both Thats it and The Art are the best shred flicks ive seen, much due to the cinematography and the fact that Travis is a phenomenal rider and pushing the sport so hard and in the right direction.

This follow up is gonna be a cracker. I CANNOT wait for it come out… In 2018.. Haha!

Yep!!!!!

It doesn’t really make it a better movie than others that are out there though!!!!!

Just a different style of snowboarding movie, and that’s good!!!!!

Variety is the Spice of Life!!!!!! It’d be borin as bat shit if they were all the same!!!!!

Skateboarding is caught in the stone age with cinematography with people still using VX series. I they should keep releasing movies on tape if they continue to use this camera.

It’s going to be mind blowing no doubt I just hope its some thing different and maybe some new terrain.

99% of companies are putting stuff out in HD, it’s usually only independent parties who still use the VX1000, and it’s still incredibly popular in the skate world (that conversation is for another time).

Jason Hernandez is someone who is really pushing the skate cinematography game, as is Russell Houghten and company. Ty Evans was pushing too much focus away from the tricks, which appealed to a more casual skate audience but irked most of us. Plenty of incredible HD skate filmers out there, I don’t believe Ty is one of them.

I think it’s like most artistic pieces, it depends on the person to what the individual likes. Beagle (VX die hard) and his dog was amazing in the RED project. Jason Hernandez is an amazing cinematographer. I think Ty is still good especially with some older films (Feedback, The Reason) and the Girl and Chocolate series are dope. The intro to Pretty Sweet was sick with the UAV. Greg Hunt is another dude who made amazing flicks with Alien Workshop, Habitat and The DC video.
