im going to aim to set up in creekside

Noooooo! Creekside is of the devil and old timers. You want Brio or Whistler Kay or the middle of the village. RBC and TD banks are both in the village Scotia bank is in Creekside so any of them are a good choice..

Yew!! Can’t wait for everyone to come and shred!! Questions are awesome!

Whats the g.o with mountain access, where’s eerryybodys first point of lift and where do you live?

No one lives in the village. raspberry

Dylan is right. It’s pretty expensive and usually the accommodation types are smaller and more suited to tourists, i.e., hotel room style. Not ideal if you’re doing a season.

Although there are some areas walking distance to the village that would be nice to live, i.e., Whistler Cay, Brio etc.

Living right in the village can be $$$ if you don’t sus out a place early enough. Whistler Kay and Brio are only a few minute walk to the lifts and everything else.

Creekside is quiet and your only options for going up the mountain is the creekside gondola which will be packed on a pow day or taking the bus which will also be packed to the village to take the other lifts up.

Creekside has Dustys Pub which is really good but its about all that’s there beside subway and starbucks. Village has heaps of variety for pubs and shopping.

I know you said you’re going to the job fair. I assume you want to work for Whistler Blackcomb? It has it’s perks… season pass, discounts, staff housing (if you need).

Three days in Vancouver is perfect and more than enough time to apply for your SIN (note: only open on week days!), open a bank account, get a phone (make sure you get a local number for Whistler), and even do a bunch of shopping. Vancouver is a cool city so enjoy your brief stay there. Really, the only thing you really should get done there is the SIN application. Phones and bank accounts can be sorted in Whistler if need be.

I posted this in another thread (some of it won’t apply to you)...

This would be my checklist if I was in your situation:

1. Apply for your visa now (if you haven’t already). http://www.whpcanada.org.au/

2. Make sure you have a solid resume and have it printed out. *Here is mine (TJswish) for reference: Resume. To do the line thing under each heading, click enter and type—- and enter really quick.*

3. You need to apply for a criminal record check and have this with you when you apply for a job with any snowfield. You can apply for this through your local police station. It can take up to eight weeks to come through, so make sure you do this with time to spare. In NSW you need to fill out this form before you go to the police station: http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/about_us/structure/specialist_operations/forensic_services/criminal_records_section

4. Get to the closest major city (Vancouver / Calgary / Montreal) before the Job Fair. Apply for your SIN. http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sin/apply/how.shtml

5. Get to the snowfield before the Job Fair. Make sure you have accommodation sorted temporarily, i.e at one of the hostels. Get a phone activated and open a bank account with RBC or TD Canada Trust. (Check with other staff / where ATMs are etc. as to which bank is best for your mountain. RBC or TD for Whistler)

6. Make sure you get to the Job Fair. You will probably need to check details on the snowfield of your choice’s website (not sure if you need to set up a time or something).

Make sure you bring your criminal record check with you. Reason being you might need it for certain jobs. Best to have it with you. Also make sure you have your bank statement printed out prior to leaving Australia, as you might need to prove you have the necessary funds to settle in Canada. I believe it’s about $4,000 but double check that.

Hit me up with any specific questions.

^^^^^ Read it all.

If you get here before the job fair and need a place to crash for the night I’ve got a couch.

Money management once you get here until you are working is uber important everyone wants a damage deposit and uniform deposit, groceries can be expensive blah blah blah and then everyone is like hey lets go out so a lot of people burn through their savings before they’ve started work here and are on full hours.

Just something to be aware of. My 2c..

Hey thanks Rider for the help, I’m waiting for whistler to open its recruiting fiar for late september that they are holding at whistler, plan is to score an interview for that because i’m booked into arriving in Vancouver on the 23rd September already! That should leave me enough time to get essentials sorted and get out to whistler for an interview. All my documents are up to speed so i’m pretty confident. I’m gonna be travelling through the states for 2 months first so I’ve had to be getting organized now!
Why do people not seem to prefer creekside accommodation? Whistlers website seems to promote it as the best one to choose. I’ll take all of your word for it, you guys been there done that.
But a bit of background info on me is I’m a pretty athletic dude, I like to workout every day and I will enjoy the party scene but I’m more one to keep it to moderation! So knowing that would I be more suited to a certain area of accommodation?

Wilmhurst I’ll stay in touch with you man I am trying to come in overprepared but being in the states for 2 months before as long as I stick to my budget I should be in a comfortable enough situation. I’m definately in for having someone show me the ropes and all, starting to assume majority of people on these forums know each other personally which is really cool.
