What is happening to skateboarding?

Avatar

Well 2014 seems to be an interesting year for skateboarding so far. With the demise of Alien Workshop, CCS getting canned and now being done through a sports site and with Zero and Fallen going over to Dwindle Distributions, we seem to be seeing some changes going on.
With the entrance of companies like Nike, Adidas and New Balance is skateboarding just becoming another sport? OR are we reaching the point before the bubble burst again and all the big brands disappear again, because there is now no money to be had in skating?
It is going to be interesting to see how things pan out. What do you my fellow plank rollers think?

Yeah it’s a tough one. I think we will have a raise and a fall again with profit going to the big boys in the game like Nike, Adidas, Levi etc…The brands that can take hits and not close.

Every week we have a new pro coming through which is dope for them but overall they are pro for a board company and you don’t know if they will continue once the dust has settled. Nothing worse than having these young guys with out a sponsor and no college education especially in the US.

The one thing I find interesting with the companies is that they are crossing in to Street Clothing like HUF and Primitive. This is another avenue for them to have a successful company and two industries to sell to. It’s funny is how the pros are just puppets with the top pros, you can tell when they wear the same style of clothes for every contest or shoot. Nyjah is rocking shorts and the socks up and he’s sponsored by Stance Socks, that would be in his contract. Skateboarders are losing control over the industry but there is still are bad boys like Deathwish & Baker posse who control their own shit.
