A fantastic effort from the boys. Its just a shame that a few small mistakes and not finishing chances can cost you a game like that. Netherlands were a bit off and we played really well, but we are lacking another star striker to put on the finishing touches, RVP and Robben are exactly that, they only need 1 opportunity.
But how about Saint Timmy. What an absolute legend. I thought he was going to head it, but wow! To be able to pick out that pass and get into position is hard enough, but to volley it like that whilst running and moving to the left takes ridiculous skill and technique.
Possibly the best Socceroos goal ever?? I hope Timmy will stick around for the Asian Cup early next year but if he does decide to hang up the green and gold, what a game and goal to end it on.
Leckie again was brilliant as was Bresciano. We kinda lost our way when he and Cahill went off. I felt for Matty Ryan on that last one. He misread it and it should have been saved and his ball distribution for the game was a bit off. He did redeem himself with some good saves in the end.
Onwards and upwards for Ange and the Socceroos, extremely proud of their campaign.
And as for Spain, another wow. Has the defending champions ever not made it out of the group like this? Would love us to get the whitewash over them. Chile just too good and Spain didn’t turn up.
Most likely Brazil v Chile in the next round - that will be a cracker.

It was a great performance by the Aussies. We were in the game until the final whistle. An absolute wonder goal by Tommy Cahill on his left boot. The two finalists from 2006, Italy and France, both went out in the group stage in 2010. So this is the second straight world cup where it’s happened. It’s happened 3 times before that too. Seems to be almost like a curse, haha.
