Hi Boardworld members,
I have joined this forum in search of some advice.
Last year I won a 157 Fyve NYCHOS snowboard. http://www.5fyve.com/boards-nychos.html
Essentially it is a soft, reverse camber board.
My question is, am I going to be able to ride it at 157?
I have been snowboarding for about 4 years now and would classify myself as an intermediate boarder, however I have always rented the gear as I have been growing.
I am 174cm tall and 74kg.
I know 157 is not ideal, however I am soon heading to NZ with some friends and basically don’t have the coin to buy a board or rent whilst over there.
Would love some feedback.
Cheers.
Welcome to Boardworld, Chuck.
What size board have you been riding previously? Do you think you are still growing?
It is a bit on the longer side for sure, but I think you can make it work, especially if you are still growing. Even if you aren’t still growing, it would be a really good powder board if the conditions ever call for it. When you have enough money, maybe then you can consider buying a shorter board and keep this one as your powder board.
Reverse camber boards are super easy and quick to turn, so in many ways it feels like a shorter board.
Given your situation, it’s probably in your best interest to just make it work. It’s not crazy big and it should still be a lot of fun to ride. Use the extra length to your advantage and ride a bit faster and harder. If you get powder on your trip, you’ll be laughing.
I rented a 157cm reverse camber once cause it was all they had and I think you can certainly make it work. I’m 173cm.
The reverse camber is so easy to ride!
Thanks heaps guys, definitely not growing still though.
Previously rode 154/155 depending what my mates would give me or what the rental company suggested at the time.
What about riding park? I’m assuming it’s going to be reasonably tough to whip the extra few centimetres?
Two cm shouldn’t make too much difference. Just ride a bit faster and you’ll have more momentum.
I think you should be fine. It’s not an ideal size for park, but given your situation it’s probably best to just make it work for this trip, then eventually use it as your powder board. It’s not too big.
