The BOARDWORLD Forums ran from 2009 to 2021 and are now closed and viewable here as an archive
I’m working on full specs now. Will have them up with the photos of the actual boards rather than digital mock ups this weekend. If you’re keen to see the actual boards we have some amateur phone footage up on our facebook and instagram.
yeah dude its all good. I appreciate the feedback, which boards are you referring to specifically.
I’m not going to lie its hard man there has been designs ideas I have been unsure about but when I put the ideas out there people are like yeah that’s fucking sick. Then when I think I have an awesome idea I get people coming back being like yeah that’s shit. Its all personal preference really. Just this morning I had a friend email me about a sample beanie I had made that I thought was terrible, saying they wanted it because they thought it was the best design.
We’re actually working on something that’s going to be more generous than just giving someone a board for their hard work. The details at this stage will work out something like, anyone can submit their designs to us at any stage, if we decide to put their idea into production we’ll give them the board, a cash payment upfront and a small cut of every board sale. We’re still getting the final details on this season so once that’s all sorted we’ll get it up. If people want more details though just email me.
This year is really about just building things up, getting the name out there a bit. If you don’t like our designs this year don’t write us off next year is a whole new deal. Hopefully this season we can make the name known sell a couple of boards and get a couple of riders on our boards (if you know any riders get them to email us some vids). We’re hoping to give an aussie rider a pro model in the not to distant future.
If anyone on here wants any stickers email your address to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and I’ll get some sent out.
I’d be keen to work with the guys at boardworld as well but I don’t want to step on anyones toes. I sent an email we’ll see what happens.

Okay cool, what would you like to see instead? Which board is your least favorite? What do you think we can improve?
If you have anything you want to submit to us my email is above. We’ll work out details of payment for our one off designers shortly. If you feel the need you can watermark your designs.
The Tyrone is my least favourite. I can’t zoom on or enlarge the image, but it’s the combination of that block lettering and the blue and purple gradient… Can’t really tell what’s on the top sheet. I don’t mind the idea of the plain boards though.
Woah if I knew this would cause some hate I never would have done it. Just trying to help a brother out. Really worst designs this year? I admit the checks one isn’t my favorite and I’ve told kyneee this to his face.
But i guess show us your design and we’ll see.
Put yourself in kyneees shoes boarder2750, would you rather hear what actual knowledgeable consumers have to say before a full on launching of a brand OR just jump gang ho into the market and be laughed out of business? Even though whats been posted on here may be harsh, its the truth and these truths are coming from the very people who he is trying to sell too, consumers, not just mates or family who may be afraid to tell him the truth OR not be snowboarders and know what we actually like.
I think you’ve actually done him a favour by posting on here, even though it was orginally veiled behind a lie which put me on the back foot straight away, we have given him some free advice that will hopefully lead to kyneee snowboard being a success, but if you want some hate to be angry and regretful about, i could always send a kyneee link over to a user/ex user on here called chucky, he wont hold back!! But no matter what is said, any brand out there is going to have its haters, its the way of the world, but in that hate can also be good advice and better compaines will know how to weed out and listen to this.
Also we dont have to show you our designs, we arent the ones starting a board business and having our mates post it on websites for free word of mouth advertising, but like i said in an earlier post, check out the fyve/bw board design comps, good stuff on there, and also some crap.
Now to answer Kynee personally, here is my opinions on your boards
1. Blank board, is good, ive always like purple and teal together.
2. Retro board, is just bad and is my least favourite. If it was an actual photograph with a real hotdog, sauce and floor the idea might work better and it may redeem itself somewhat. Not sure if its any different on the actual board but the zoomed in pic on your facebook, the hotdog and bottle look like they are images from a newspaper that a child has cut out with safety scissors and then taken a pic of with a webcam. Then there is way too many checkers.
3. MN board, if your going to have an illustration, it needs to be done by someone with some actually pencil skills OR done by the rider whos pro model board it is (or maybe someone special to them). I do kinda not mind the base on this one though.
4. Tyrone. The actual dinosaur is OK, wallpapering it is too much but the idea of having a couple in a contrasting colour works. Base looks like it was done in MS paint by a year 9 student.
Thats just my quick personal opinion. I really do wish you the best of luck with this venture dude but i hope you haven’t got a whole bunch of these boards made already, but if you do, i hope you can shift them quickly and then take all the advice from everyone on here and come back in 2015 with a range that blows peeps away with its awesomeness.
I agree with Trent.
I did find a real photo of the boards on your fb page though and they do look better in real life. The blank looks cool - I like the blunt tips. The name does remind me of Yes’ The basic.
The drawing on the MN is bad. and while the hot dog board looks better in the photo, I don’t know, who is your target market for that board? Graphics do have an important role in the sale of boards, so who would look at that board and think it was sick?
For graphics you should either find a graphic artist with great work or how about going the photograph collage look? or just a black topsheet with a black & white photo between the bindings?
Whats your point of difference going to be? Ive spent a fair bit of time in the snowboard industry, although not the last 5 or 6 years, so I know a little.
There are so many generic board companies out there at the moment that your going to have to compete with, have a look on ebay and see how many unknown brands are selling stuff very cheap. Unless you can come up with something a bit different, whether it be materials, profile, camber, art or something else your going to be just another cheap brand, and unless your the cheapest the crew looking for the cheapest board will buy something else that costs them less. If your not targeting the cheap end of things then have a think about where you want your brand to head and work on that.
Not many companies have been successful in Australia, Fyve have done very well in the last few years but it took them a while to get going, Catalyst have been about for a while, but I doubt that rich gives a shit about becoming well known, Force have kinda morphed into something else and a lot have gone out of business after 1 or 2 seasons.
Good luck with it and keep focused on what you want to represent
To be honest this season was only planned to be a soft launch. I’d hoped to be more prepared but I broke my hand in January which stopped everything for a few weeks. Then I had an artist decide she didn’t like the vision for the brand or something I dunno it was vague.
Those nitro boards are something I specifically wouldn’t want to be like. That’s not a dig at you or anything but seriously its looks like something that would appear on a 16 year old girls facebook profile pic when she’s going through her artsy faze. Not that I think our stuff is any better but its so predictable.
Here’s some explanation of the graphics (btw the real photos are up I have to still fix the issues with the zoom)
Mn - came from a pencil sketch but was very hard to convert to a board but we got a lot of love for the initial art and preliminary designs. We had to settle for a vector like image with the k logo in the middle meant to represent tge earth. It also gave birth to our idea for unisex boards. We were thinking a girls board but got as much love from guys as girls. Turns out girls don’t just want pink and girly.
Retro- as much as we like to pretend snowboarding isn’t influenced by external factors it is. Vintage cars are in so we were trying to pick up the 50s retro feel and just do something different to every other board. I’ve considered removing the hotdog but it doesn’t really work. Also kinda has a vans checksf feel.
Tyrone - the top for me had a neff smile kinda feel. I think neff are awesome and wanted this board for me more than anything I don’t care if it doesn’t sell. The base is meant to have a street art kinda feel. There was a little prehistoric man figure as well but he didn’t make the cut.
The blank - is just fucking awesome. You should all buy it. Its only $275 and I’ll throw in some poscas or mtn pens so you can customise it.

I dont agree with you there about this image being 16 year old girl arty, if anything its more down the path of wu tang listening, pot smoking wanna be gangsta wiggers (im sure you know what that means, if not google it), but that being said, even without brand awareness of nitro, that series of boards will sell because the design & art is good as a series BUT on the other hand as single boards it doesnt work as much

Agree with you interms of girls not just wanting pink and girly, look at pretty much any brands girl boards lately and they are far from it. If you spent 2 minutes on the art of this board cleaning up the edges so it doesnt look like its been ‘magic wand’ deleted it would make it sooo much better and more professional looking. Send me the art and ill do it for you for free if you’d like. hit me up via PM if your interested

I get the vibe your going for with this, its just the execution of it thats not soo good. Better art would again would make a better. Heres something I quickly knocked up in about 5 mins as i should be doing actual work, its by no means a well constructed piece of art, but it gives you an idea of how much better things could look.
You could also keep it looking like clipart like it is now but by simply changing the size of the elements, it would make it alot stronger design!!Tyrone - the top for me had a neff smile kinda feel. its neffish…......at a stretch BUT if you like it then thats all that matters.

$275 is cheap!! you may have tempted me
Not bad for a 5 minute job. Did you make the hot dog yourself?
You need to post the specs man. There’s no way people will buy your boards if you don’t even have the specs.
Specs meaning:
- waist width
- sidecut radius
- contact length
- effective edge
- setback
- etc.

hahah nope, but it gave me a craving for some mystery meat in a tube, encased in a bun, so for lunch i set off to massive wieners on chapel st
Art cost money so it takes time to get it going. Free product for artists cost money. Give the homie some time. Buy his products.

This guy gets it, thanks man.
Artist and people that aren’t friends are hard to rely on as well. People can get really greedy really fast so you have to weed them out.
