because every day of your life counts! Every day doing stuff you don’t want to do is another wasted day!
What about working a job you dont like to save for an OS trip, is that wasted?
Obviously this is just my extremely humble opinion but I would say it entirely depends on the person…but in general I would say no, not wasted, as long as you are actually seriously trying hard to save to achieve your dream/goal.
Heaps of people say they wish they had the time and money to do stuff that if they actually really wanted to do, they could get themselves together and do it in a year at the absolute max.
All of us reading these forums are privileged beyond belief and despite whatever personal problems and burdens we may carry, have a lot more power to do whatever the heck we want than the majority of people on the planet. To pretend that this isn’t the case and live a life not doing things you enjoy feels (to me) like an insult to those who really do lack privileges and opportunities to pursue their dreams.
Too many people who say ‘one day’ I’ll do that when in fact they could be doing it much sooner. If you aren’t ever prepared to tighten the purse strings and make the odd sacrifice to your lifestyle to save for a trip, then unless you are born rich then you’ll never end up going anywhere, and I would contend that you don’t actually want to do whatever it is you are talking about.
In Dylan’s case, he’s so damn young and he’s already stuck it out and is finishing his apprenticeship, so he has something behind him.
Another whole year of working and saving, just so he can live it up to a slightly better standard on his trip would seem like an eternity to him, I reckon.
On a personal note, I’ve been trying to live my life so that I get to have fun all the time either surfing, snowboarding or downhill mtn biking, while never having to do a job I dislike and always saving for the next adventure at the same time - allowing me to have at least double the amount of weeks off per year that the average 9-5, seven day per week worker gets….and I feel like its working out pretty well so far.
Just my…..5 cents worth at least I reckon that is!
In order to do the things you want, you have to do things that you don’t really want to do!!!!!
That’s just a fact of life for the over whelming majority!!!!!

ah bugger, I dunno why when I edited it, it re-posted. Sorry about that, Dylan and everyone else!
Just out of curiosity, cords!!!!!
When you were doin that Housekeepin job, did you enjoy changin other people’s bed sheets and cleanin the toilets that they’d been usin?????
3 days a week and snowboarding all the rest of the days of the week like I did? - not a problem miz!
Whack the earphones in, karaoke it up.
Cleaning is far from the worst job that I can think of doing.
My first cleaning job was after I gave up my teaching job in aus to move to sweden and I thought I was on holidays the whole 6 months, the lack of responsibility was mind boggling! It was the best thing I’d ever done. Cleaning toilets is a breeze…If we are getting technical, kitchens are way more gross!
Would I want to work as a cleaner forever? Probably not, but nor do I have to. I’m quite happy to work as one every now and then, go snowboarding and while I’m doing it save to go and do something else fun.
The idea that someone might be put off the idea of chasing their dreams because they might have to do cleaning or other menial job for a while is loopy!
I’m in no way sayin that Houskeeping is a menial job!!!!!
But if given the option of not havin to do it, it sounds like you’d take that route with open arms!!!!!
I guess everyone has different goals, and some just put up with havin to do what they do in order to achieve them!!!!!
Doesn’t mean they’re livin less of a life!!!!!
Ever since i can remember, before i had ever been to the snow or traveled, both here and abroad, I have always wanted to travel & numero uno, at the top of the list has been Whistler, for just as long.
ive worked since i could walk, in high school I worked before and after school nearly every day and most weekends. I was never the smartest mug with my money, but before i left high school and started my apprenticeship i had over 10k saved, with the intention to use it to travel, but instead, i was talked into getting an apprenticeship. Im glad i did, ive learnt a lot doing so, at work and in general life.
Im now getting close to the end of the four years, im 10k the other way and i wouldnt change a thing. I have had so much fun i could not give a rats ass about the money ive wasted doing so.
I will soon have the piece of paper ive been working for since January 2011, & with that i will be swiftly moving onto the next chapter, that ive been waiting for, for what feels like eternity.
As far as spending another year working, i just dont want to, im over it, because i no longer have the tie down of finishing the apprenticeship, i would just end up doing the aussie season and probably have less that i would going when i am.

Am I am so very glad you stuck it out and I am positive that you will never look back on it and regret it!
i know the first time we had the conversation you really weren’t keen on it!!! But the day is almost here!

One 3 assignments pending approval, 1 assignment to complete & the capstone (final theory & prac exam) left to go

You can enter Canada any way you want.
The US visa waiver is also fine.
