Mammoth was always top priority & has one of the longest season, best parks & people i know, so the new plan is, get a season pass & rent a place in mammoth for a month, then see how we’re going financially and how the snow condition is and if both of those permit go and spend a week or so in Northstar, then continue heading north & start looking for summer jobs in whistler

Next year I’ll be finished my apprenticeship and priority numero uno remains unchanged, GETTING THE F#*K OUT OF HERE!!!
I’ll be using my visa todo the 15/16 & 16/17 season in Canada, I dont want to arrive & activate my 2 years during the main season.
So mid april is the earliest i want to get to canada, my apprenticeship is due to finish on 17/1/2015, when I leave Aus is entirely up to my financial situation.
The overall plan is to fly into Los Angeles and then do a road trip to Whistler, stopping at resorts along the way.
Here’s a starter to the map possible route & stops LA to Whis
So far, in order, i have:
Big Bear
Mammoth
Northstar
Boreal
Mt Hood
Mt Baker
Let me know all your thoughts, suggestions & experiences
Also here is a map of all the North American Resorts (excluding resorts with less than 3 lifts)
North American Snow Resorts
Whereabouts is the middle eastern bar that a has the Japanese guy there, that’s gonna punch ya in the head and steal ya wallet and phone?????
Hey Man,
I’ve been to the States many times and have been to all of those resorts (cept Boreal??). Your proposed plan is exactly what I would do. My advice would be to keep your schedule flexible. There are other mountains close to those resorts (eg. Tahoe, Washington) that may be better on the day you are there.
Also, don’t feel like you have to take such a direct route. You could quite easily ride Tahoe one day and hit up UT the next, and even get some sleep if you are rolling two up
Traveling in the States is a piece of piss and cheap

Cheers man, yea flexibility is key, im not pre booking any tickets or accomm, especially being so late season, some of the resorts may not even be a go, but its good because a few of those even run summer camps so pretty much garenteed snow and parks
Basically just going with the flow as far as money allows I think we might be rocking a tent(s) for part of the trip to save.
Woodward Tahoe is run on Boreal so they should have a sick park set up
thought about doing it like Freddy and I did? buying a cheap van and setting it up with a bed and stuff?
We bought, registered, insured and fit out our van with all the creature comforts for about $2500-$2800 (Walmart is good for something!) and sold it again at the end of our trip for $1500….Just an idea.
Like AJ said, I’d suggest an inland detour if you have the time and money. We were in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana just when the first snow was arriving (october) and it made me soooo keen to do a trip like you are planning.
Two words…Jackson Hole! I’ve been following their insta since I went there and it truly looks ridiculous.
A van like this?
Already sorted courtesy of Jonny Ruffo
Yea pretty much depends on our money situation at the time.
As for Jacksons Hole, it is right near the top of my list, but i wont be going there this trip, im saving that trip for mid winter
tea thats cool, but theres possibly going to be 3 or 4 of us
After doing some more in depth financial calculating ive discovered that i would have to push every cent as far as i could to make this trip work, and i really dont want to have to worry about money like that and neither does jonny, so theres a change of plans.

Thoughts?
I guess it comes down to what your priority is, maximum on snow time or a road trip experiencing different areas around the USA.
I’m sure you’ll be able to keep yourself busy at Mammoth (I had planned to go there before deciding it was just too expensive for late December snow) but on the other hand at your age it would be great to tick off a bunch of USA sights even if it does mean sacrificing some on snow time.

Not just that, its going to work out cheaper and ill be able to spend more time in the states.
i will do the trip i originally planned + more in the future, but thats for when i have more moola behind me and i can afford something decent to get around in and be self contained
This one would do perfectly
why not save mulla and go year after ?
because every day of your life counts! Every day doing stuff you don’t want to do is another wasted day!
