What are the Camera Stores like in Shinjuku, Gamblor?????

I’ve never even ventured in one as I’ve been scared that I could lose all sense of reality, and have a “blackout” with my credit card in my hand!!!!!

Unfortunately, the ones that I have run across aren’t anything special. Prices on new stuff is pretty similar everywhere, and cheaper online. On used stuff, the prices are still high. It is Tokyo, after all, and they have a high rent to pay.

Best thing to do is: research a camera. Once you have one you want, compare prices with amazon japan and australia. If it’s cheaper in Japan, print out the amazon page or kakaku page and show that to the guy in the store…after talking to him about the camera. If he thinks you’re serious about buying, then he might negotiate. That’s when you pull out the print out.
If it’s Kitamura kamera, they should be able to know 1000yen off for sure - they have a thing where if you bring in an old broken camera, they’ll take 1000yen off a new one. But they can get around it if you don’t have an old camera on you.

To get a good discount you have to get creative. They might only offer a little off the camera itself but get stuff thrown in, like the clear film for the lcd screen. Get a discount on a bag, an sd card (they should match the amazon price if you’re buying a camera), extra lenses, protective filters for the lenses.

Also remember to take your passport with you if you are planning a purchase. You often get a tax rebate discount from memory the purchase had to be over 10,000yen???

I know yodobashi and bic camera do it on the spot. The new huge shopping centre Takashiyama Times Square near Shinjuku station has a desk where any tourists can claim cash back. I claimed money back on a couple of purchases from Tiffanys and Louis Vuitton and it was a trouble free transaction

Oh how I miss that feelin too, Dave!!!!! shaka

Yeah mate it’s great thinking about the amazing times there but hurts so much not being there. I feel like such an ass for feeling sad about doing USA/Canada rather than Japan next time.

Dyldo is gonna walk into a few stationary objects whilst checkin out the scenery for sure!!!!!

Haha I bet he is. Dyldo I know you’re leaving soon and I’m sure we’ve mentioned it before but please stay far far away from any nigerians and any club that has people out the front encouraging you to go in is a club to avoid!

Pretty much everything other than that is all good though!

Make sure ya push Warren into a snow bank for me!!!!!

Does anyone know if there is an ATM near the lodge somewhere? The best exchange rate seems to be from visa by just withdrawing from an atm. (citibank has no international fees)

If you’re in Hirafu, there’s a new one in Shiki (spelling), the new supermarket on the main road!!!!! In between Seico Mart and Lawsons, and on the same side of the road as Seico Mart!!!!! Close to the bridge!!!!!

Otherwise, head into Kutchan on the bus, get some cash out of the ATM at the Post Office!!!!! Just remember they close before 5:00pm or so!!!!!

You’ll also find an international ATM at the Airports!!!!!

Do you carry a balance?

Cause remember that cash advances have a higher interest rate on credit cards and that when you make payments on the card it deducts the old balance first.

Yeah, I made a new account with citibank plus. They have no fees for withdrawing cash overseas. The plan is to transfer the spending money into the account before I leave on Wednesday, and just take it all out when I get there.

It’s not a cash advance since it’s just a visa debit.

Ah goodo!

Yes I heard citibank plus was the best deal for OS travel.
