Hmmmm is a random board they sent out or were they claiming it’s “the” board for your trip?

Please explain

If you booked early you got a board.  They rang up back during the shred and asked what sort of boards we rode, then suggested a profile that would suit and made them up.  mines a mellow cam rock not sure what Dylan’s is like.

Hehe, I’ve packed the Proto, the Fyve and the yes 420 plus 2 sets of bindings.  Board bag is nearly 26 kg’s and I think I can squeeze most of my clothes in there as well to bring it up to the 30 kg’s

I knew why you got a board just wasn’t sure if they just gave you a random board that potentially may not suit a camp in Japan.
It wouldn’t be the first time a company gave you something not suitable.

Ive got three boards in for the trip, I’m not going to have any issues. But yea as Dan said, they rang up and asked, mines basically flat, 153, bone shape & nice and flexy, I think it will be a winner

I’ll put money on that you guys will pretty much ride one board the whole time. You might ride a second one once. But definately not a 3rd.

Dan my money is on the 420 for your every day board. Its short so will be heaps of fun learning freestyle stuff too.

Yeah I agree!

But its like everything… how many people take clothes they never wear?

I kind of understand taking back up especially if you have never ridden a board you think might be best.

But man 3 boards - woah! LOL

two sets of bindings??

Taking two sets of bindings is gonna make it more likely to use another board. No one can be stuffed changing bindings at teh end of the day when you are stuffed and there is partying to be had. Especially with the thought of changing it bac after a day

1 maybe 2 boards, 1 set bindings, with spare screws and straps just incase!!!!!

2 Jackets/Pants, incase ya get them wet, tear them open in the trees!!!!!

2 Goggles, for obvious reasons!!!!

Wax kit to save a few bucks, so ya can spend it on beers instead!!!!!

Then the rest to make up the weight!!!!! (Leaving some room for stuff to bring home, like Japanese treats, whiskey, sake etc etc!!!!!

This!

Make sure you leave room to bring stuff back. I usually come back with quite a few clothes from Uniqlo and H&M as well as heaps of chips/biscuits/chocolates (which is big considering I don’t really like junk food) and Dad is stoked with the 12 Year Yamazaki and Hakushu Whisky I’ve brought back for him (apparently if you like whisky it’s some of the best in the world)

Being your first trip to Japan you’re also likely to stock up on souvenir stuff from places like Nakamise street in Asakusa etc which begins to add up.

For my Japan trips 1 board and 1 bindings has been all I’ve needed. Gloves, facemask, layers and goggles are more important choices! (You can pretty much cater for any conditions by adjusting your setback, though I did ride a charlie slasher last year which is a “Pow” board but handles all mountain just fine) All my gear then fits in a Dakine High Roller bag (usually around 20kg) plus a 7kg carry on bag.

Edit: Pretty jealous about the custom shape Fyve boards. Dylan if you think you have too many boards now (hint you do!) I’m interested in the blue fyve board you got on sale the other week LOL

Its funny, I took less stuff to Canada for 3 months than I took to Japan for 10 days

Plus goin to Hokkaido, I’d just take a board that’s more suited to Powder, cause once it pukes (and this is more often than not in February), odds are that you’ll be goin nowhere near the parks anyways!!!!!

I’ve packed the YES ASYM & the two FYVE boards plus 2 sets of bindings (ride rodeos & NOW selects), ive only ridden the ASYM board and rodeo bindings, if i had riden all before i would only be packing 2 boards 2 bindings. Board bag is 26 kg’s (23ish w/out the ASYM) and I could squeeze my clothes in there as well, but im going to probably put my board bag in a locker in tokyo airport so ill take my clothes in carry on.
That means ill have enough room and weight to take alcohol, souvenirs and stuff like that
