When it’s your 40th birthday and you’re really into vintage snowboards, it pays to have good mates who work at Burton.

Patrick (pictured) just scored this brand new Custom X specially handmade at Burton’s Craig’s prototype facility in Burlington, Vermont - with the topsheet and base graphics of a 1990 Burton Craig Kelly Mystery Air.

This is what the original looked like.

Before they even arrived in Sochi, Russian officials told visiting broadcast/commentary crews etc. that due to security fears and terrorist threats, none of them would be allowed up on the mountain (Krasnaya Polyana) to ski or snowboard prior to the events.

Todd Richards didn’t listen.

Incidentally, the board he’s riding is a 2015 YES Jackpot.

That is just about the coolest thing ever gulp
I would have to get 2 though. One for the wall and one I would HAVE TO RIDE!
Imagine peoples faces that were hiking the pipe and see you fly out and bust a method on a Mystery Air hahaha.
Craig Kelly Lives!!!

For anyone who doesn’t know the cool story of why it was called the Mystery Air (I only just found out last year when a more…. lets say veteran snowboarder (instead of old tongue wink ) friend told me.

Apparently when Jake Burton asked Craig Kelly to ride for his brand. Craig was keen but still in a contract with Sims. Craig really wanted to ride a new Burton in the next comp, but couldn’t legally. So Jake made him a Burton Air with no Burton logos and just said MYSTERY on the base hahaha.
At least that’s how the story goes that I heard.

Now Burton’s prototype shop is called “Craig’s Place” and they seem to have replaced their flagship the Burton Vapour with a new board called the Burton Mystery in his honour. Which is pretty cool I think shaka
