he used to always put his binding through the board racks so it didn’t fall over and get damaged

he had his board blown over at BC and had a chunk taken out of the top sheet as a result.  So he learnt his lesson..  There is no way a binding ratcheted though the board rack would be undone by the wind.. (maybe a cyclone, if it snapped the binding straps)

ahhh
but if someone took it thinking it was their board or to make more space on a rack or to get access to the rack and then they replaced it, maybe…

He was lucky he got his board back. I imagine

somehow

it got off the rack and was picked up by someone who saw it flying down the hill (I’ve race after plenty between midstation and FV and have carried them to the bottom.

Hey, I might have even been the one that put it where it was found!
LOL

Also ratchets wear out the plastic and some don’t stay done up without pressure against them. Snow builds up on bindings and can cause a ratchets to stay open. an unlucky lobbed snowball can release a ratchet or even a skipole wrist lash could get caught.

I’m sure I could think of numerous other ways it could accidentally happen so I can maintain some faith in humanity and not some loser AH taking it.

At Heavenly in Tahoe i saw a board flying at Mach 10 down a run with a lady trying to run after it. Laughed so damn hard.

I saw a board fanging down Bourke St at Buller. Pretty much went the whole length and was taking out people without a care in the world. I saw no one chasing after it though.

Nearly lost mine up the top of Whistler Gondy once, but luckily skip’s mate had quick reflexes and grabbed hold of it!!!!!

Woulda been a search of epic proportions had it gone!!!!! sick

I’ve stopped them while working as a photog on races. Even at a mediocre speed they come close to breaking bones through a snowboard boot.

fair enough! (id like to have faith in humanity, but I work in management in a retail environment, my faith is pretty low - but I still have some!)

and the board, binding combo was about 8-10 days into the season..  So virtually new bindings,

we just assumed some one grabbed it by mistake, (after we had found it ofcourse, before we assumed it stolen, and not coming back). But he was so stoked to find it!!

Devo, just got a call from the family…BIL in Sochi for the IOC broadcaster filming SS and Pipe for snowboard….
back in hometown Raddelaide yesterday, apparently a big storm, BIL’s dad was cleaning up the yard and a massive branch fell on him, smashed skull, arm broken 2 places, 4 broken ribs and leg injuries. In induced coma with outcome not looking good. BIL not feeling comfortable in Sochi anyway, but can’t get home.

Fark!!!

That is not good!

Why can’t he come home?

a number of reasons I suppose….
1. it was such a drama getting in there, getting out is just as hard. Even with insurance.
2. always at events like this, payment is done after the event, and the cost of getting there comes out of your own pocket, sometimes reimbursed later. In this case, i.e. Sochi altogether, the payment is apparently made into a Russian bank account that they set up for you without your knowledge…. Azz heard this on the radio, its not from BIL…  for some events, World Cup in SA for example, I heard they were still chasing payment months later.
3. will coming back serve much purpose for the dad? I think a wait and see approach is happening. If he recovers, the family has been told to expect major changes in personality etc. :(
