Hey Guys
Just picked up a new SUP yesterday and if comes with a FCS plug on the front of the board intended for use with a gopro with surf mount adapter. I use a DriftHD which has the universal camera screw method of mounting.
Has anyone (spaz???) found or built a converter of sorts that will easily allow me to attach a universal screw device to the FCS mount?
This is the mount in the board and the photo after is the universal style screw that the drift (with or without waterproof case) can connect to.
Actually after some googling it looks like drift “might” have something

What I can’t tell from the photos is if it has the screw mount on top and what the adhesive pad in it is for.
Edit: Nope just found a photo from another angle it just has the drift style click in not the screw which I’d prefer so it’s compatible with a larger variety of accessories/cameras. Probably looking at home made jobs then??
I have one that is designed to mount in that plug!
I’ll check how much I can let it go for.
But for SUP the best place to mount is on the paddle with a pole mount.
Being carbon fibre consider the ease of putting a 1/4” bolt through the paddle handle.

Nice thanks Seb, let me know! I’m pretty sure I’ve got a pole mount will have to see how it grips. For now I’m not going to be producing anything film worthy but nice to have options.
Footage of SUP looks awesome. It’s a great way of filming surfing and your adventures.
So I’ve been thinking about this more and I really would like to be able to mount a swivel ball style thing (so I could easily spin and angle the cam) with camera screw like the top of the suction mount photo above.
The question is how to I then convert that into something that will fit the FCS mount. One idea is grabbing a cheap surf fin. Cutting it in half (keeping the bit that slots into the fcs) whilst also cutting something with the swivel ball mount and then Frankensteining the two together with a glue or sorts….
How did you go about it spaz?
I didn’t build the one I have for the FCS plug - it came direct from Drift.
What I did for my softboard was put a boogieboard leash plug through and screwed a swivel mount into it. Work great until I tried an extension piece (to get a higher angle) - the leverage exerted on it when hit by water snapped the plug in half.
Your plan sounds good (but expensive).
Might be a better idea to buy a thick piece of carbon fibre and create the insert for the plug (probably any material will work though).
Really it’s just a hole with a grub screw - you just need something that fits in the hole that the grub screw will grab.
Then fix whatever you want to the insert you created - I suggest an locking elbow that has a 1/4” thread on one end.
