What’s your latest purchase?

Avatar

Bought some clubbie budgie-smugglers on the weekend for when I’m being active in the SLS club.
Also had to kit out PP again with her nippers gear because she’s grown a few more inches since November - this time got her a 2 piece (it will allow more growth) and a rashy. Both of us now have new tan lines to break in.

I scored 2 pair of SLSA thongs for free (1 for PP, 1 for me).
While getting the thongs discovered PP now takes size 9 womens shoes, she’s 10yo!

DRC pretty stoked for you mate, just one word of advice, don’t go out when it’s too windy and you can’t find a sheltered sport, especially until you have your technique down pat as you act like a big sail which is fine downwind but upwind can be near on impossible at times!

Hope you get out on it today, I would be frothing to get out a new SUP if I had one.  Realistically I’ve had mine for about 15 months and paid similar or a bit more than what you did and I would say it’s cost me less than $5 per go since then ha ha!

Spewing I wasn’t working from home yesterday as we could have had a paddle on Pittwater after you bought it, something tells me you were a little keen and impatient to wait till Friday ha ha ha!

Cheers mate, I never would have found sanctum if you hadn’t mentioned it (think I might head back for a fish surfboard down the line as I spent a little too long browsing in the factory!)

Yeah really wished you had been off yesterday I was a fish out of water in that area and would have loved the company. I wanted to check out some of the local beaches but after a stupid amount of hours in the car (I checked all 3 shops we discussed), getting lost in the city and an incredibly ordinary lunch (from a “health cafe” in the main strip near woolies) I was buggered/over it. Did try to quickly stop at Collaroy Beach on the way home but could only see ticket parking so I scurried my way back to the shire after what had turned out to be a 7hr expedition smile

Was Pittwater that inlet lake style place just off on the side of the road inbetween sanctum/collaroy? Looked like a perfect place to learn flatwater! Definitely want to catch up soon though mate here, there or the harbour all work.

I’m open to any and all advice when it comes to the art of SUP any good resources I should know about? (have found seabreeze), I spent last night putting the fins and leash on as well as measuring and cutting the pole (played it safe to start with and have left it 10” above my height and just taped the handle for now)

Unfortunately man flu has worsened (plus its windy out here) so the SUP is still taking up half of my apartment without touching water yet! Need to work out where the sheltered places around here are might go for a drive around gunnamatta bay later.

Seabreeze is my go-to website after coastalwatch for condition assessment.
Willys weather is also good.

No worries mate, a mate first told me about it a couple of years ago soonish after they first opened, leggies for $15-20, new boards for $450, mals for $650 and SUP’s for $900 and up, they also have wetties, sunnies, tailpads and awesome board covers there as well.  Did Jimmy realise that you were a mate of mine?  I doubt he knows my name but def knows the face and I spoke to him about that SUP and told him that a mate was interested.

Yeah spewing I wasn’t around mate, could have sorted you an awesome café meal and showed you the beaches and Pittwater.  What you saw is Narrabeen Lake, Pittwater is a lot bigger, goes from Mona Vale out to Palm beach and joins up with the mouth of the Hawkesbury and out into the Tasman.

Please tell me you didn’t drive Military Rd through Mosman and Spit Bridge etc?  That is the slowest way possible ha ha ha!

Yeah I mentioned your name and he remembered a guy taking a photo of the two boards so that must have been you! smile

Now you’re just making me feel worse that I didn’t wait until Friday but who knows the board could have sold by then. Definitely will revisit at some stage though!

Haha sounds like I took the scenic route. Wasn’t the most fun I’ve ever had (didn’t help I was under the weather) will get your directions next time I’m up that way.

So to keep this somewhat on topic the spending continues and this is my latest purchase.

This SUP stuff sure adds up! Figured I’d be able to use them for snow trips as well and considering I often sleep in the car it has the added bonus of a room upgrade! LOL

Not sure whether to buy a padded bag for the sup or just buy some foam for the bars and strap it directly on???

Oh an another purchase today

Amoxil, let’s hope this shit kicks in soon not the way I want to be spending my last week of holidays!

nice, DRC.  I’m interested to hear how you end up strapping your board down on those roof bars.  For my softboards, I got some old carpet underlay foamie stuff and wrapped that around my bars with duct tape.  Looked shocking but worked OK I think.  I’ve been strapping it on with regular webbing tie-downs, but I find that slow and quite prone to damaging the board if you reef it down too hard.  I think I’ve seen some rubber occy-strap like bands that might be better.

Cheers mate I’ll definitely keep you posted on what I end up doing.

On one hand I’m tempted just to cough up for a padded bag as I’m already having a hell of a time finding somewhere to put the sup that isn’t bricks or concrete and keep bumping it into things when I walk it around. I could then just use the board in bag straight on top of the racks and tie them down. Downside is it wouldn’t help me out if I want to put my fibreglass surfboard on the racks or even the snowboard (I’m not entirely sure if I have to buy the usual snowboard rack addition where it sandwiches the board vs just strapping the board onto the bars.)

On the other hand I’ve done a bit of looking at foam pad options that will fit over the bars which would offer protection to whatever board I put on the racks. Clark rubber has some options (would need to check they fit the aero style bars) or you can get ones from the surf brands. As for straps I hadn’t thought to much about it yet as long as they are strong might go for something with a ratchet.

or package with straps

One thing I don’t think I can overcome with roof racks is security if I leave stuff on the car unattended, guess I just have to trust someone scummy isn’t going to come along.

You can buy lockable straps!!!!!

Uncuttable straps?

While you’re here mate is this what you recommended a while back?
http://www.surfstitch.com/browse/product.jsp?productId=prod1290621v&favAdded=true&giftlistId=gl270011019p&_requestid=113895

Haven’t needed one while surfing but now that I’ll likely need my car to get to the water (and I have one of those keys that won’t like water) I may need one.

Isn’t it shit that in this country we need to even think about stuff like this!

Yeah mate, I’ve been usin a Surf Lock for yonks now without any dramas!!!!! Just gotta be careful that ya don’t do any late late arvo sessions though, as ya need to see the numbers on the coded lock!!!!! I nearly got caught out once!!!!! Hahhaaa!!!!!

As for the straps, there’s ones that are stainless steel belted, so if someone’s gonna flog ya board they’re gonna have to come equipped with some decent tools and be pretty inconspicuous while they’re doin it!!!!!

I think there’s a few different brands of te straps on the market!!!!! Can’t recall the names, as I’ve got the trusty van to lock my gear in, myself!!!!! (Probably easier to bust a window to get my gear as well, plus the added cost of glass replacement)

Ohhh, and the SUP looks sweet!!!!!  thumbsup

Invest in a wagon or van!

Doubt you’d fit a SUP into most vans, let alone any wagon?????
