Haha so many lulz lately in this thread.
Think i may get a SUP soon, my missus dad imports them and sells them to shops so i can get a stupidly good deal on them.

DRC no worries mate, let me know what you actually want to do with the SUP and I can give you a few options. It can be expensive, mates of mine have boards worth over $3500 each but I’ve persisted with a board that does most things i require of it for a lot less than that however I did buy it second hand.
Perhaps have a crack at it a few times before you go throwing $1000 at a board and $300 at a paddle to make sure you’re really keen on it and will get the use out of it. It’s my single best piece of fitness equipment I own.
Cheers mate, essentially I want to be able to fitness paddle when the surf is flat (I have gunnamatta bay or the beaches to pick from) I’d like to progress to being able to ride surf that’s too small to bother paddling out on my surfboard but for anything bigger I’d just rather get better at surfing. So I guess something that primarily paddles flat water/bays but can handle 0-2ft surf?
I wouldn’t want to dump too much money into it but the hiring thing is where I’m conflicted. Like it’s a pretty safe bet I’ll like it so wouldn’t I be better off putting the money into buying my own setup rather than renting? If for some reason I really don’t like it hopefully sell off for not a huge loss. Having said that I did very nearly hire one yesterday out of boredom. As we discussed the other day it also seems like a really popular “date” activity so it might get some use there as well.
Now here’s the big negative which is the main reason I haven’t jumped in and bought one yet. I’ve become very lazy in regards to heading to the water. I love being able to chuck my surfboard under my arm run up the street and be at the beach. I’m just not sure if I will bother putting on soft racks (which I’ve never used on my new car as it scratched my old cars roof) strapping the sup down and driving to the water each time I want to SUP.
I think the desire to get one has kind of been compounded by the fact I really wanted to throw myself into getting better at surfing this school holidays but I’m waking up to a lot of frustrating flat days!

count me in! (for the comedy factor!!) I can see me eating sh!t on one of those, but I want to try it!
I can get my hands on a couple of them, there is a place at narrabeen lakes that hires them out, they aren’t too flash but they do the trick.

I can see what i can do for ya mate. I have got a mates wife one (but she is also good friends with my missus) and we had to get her to come to the factory as her Dad asks you questions etc. and works out what size/type board you get.
Pretty sure we ended up getting her a board, bag, leg rope and a full carbon fibre paddle for a touch under $1500. But not sure if he will go for it, he has exclusivity deals with shops so yeh he isnt meant to sell to people.

Hey bud appreciate it and totally understand. As it turns out Mike has done a bit of hunting around and it may lead to this shire boy making the trek to the northern beaches to make an impulse purchase.

Going to see the lumineers play tonight! So stoked!! Missed out last time they toured and my brother came back saying it was the best concert he’d ever been to so I have high expectations!
