Hey leasha my wife and I are here for out first season and we came over with about $4000 between us and we are doing pretty good so I def think $10k would be sweet as.

I’ve heard from a few people that lifty jobs are the first to fill so make sure you get in as soon as you can with your application. Make sure you apply for staff housing as soon as you have an offer for a job too this year there has been a huge number of people asking for it with limited spaces and so there is a long waiting list.

Once you get here you won’t want to leave.

Oh really maybe I won’t need as much lol I’ll see how my saving goes.
Yeah I plan to apply as soon as I can, can you apply for staff housing before you leave or once you get there?

Yeah I can say from experience that the LIfty ones fill quickly with the working holiday club. I’d be getting ready to apply now through them if you’re at all thinking about doing a program. I don’t think that lift ops did any hiring at the Local Job Fair this winter as the majority of spots are taken by people who go through the programs or are returning from a previous season. The big hire they do every year locally is around May/June before summer - usually bring on ~40 people for when sightseeing and bike park open after the resort shuts for Winter at the end of May.

Once you get a job offer from Whistler Blackcomb you can apply for staff housing. The staff housing is only for people who work for the mountain so you’ll need to make sure you’ve both got jobs to secure a spot there.

In other news locally I’m still not back on a board yet but there is a big storm going through here which is said to bring 50+cm’s over the next 24hours. Freezing level is also forecast to drop down to ~850m which means that there could be snow in the village. People will be all over it in the morning so I’ll keep an eye out for some pictures to post up.

Yeah I’m trying to avoid going with a program I think I may just try my luck with Sun Peaks. I think I’ll have a better chance there, I hope! I have to get something!

While I’ve never been to Sun Peaks, and from my personal experience, Japan has the best snow/culture/food/buzz factor, if I were to work/live a season in the snow as a youngster, Whistler would probably be my #1 choice, cause it really has what I think is the most options/experiences/terrain/people to keep anybody satisfied for the season!!!!!

Just my take!!!!!

Yeah I would love to get a job there but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be possible without a program. Unless I head over and hope for the best because they don’t do Skype interviews.

Out of all that have gone over in search for a seasonal job (on Boardworld), I can’t recall any that weren’t successful!!!!!

I think that due to Whistler bein so BIG, it will always have options for employment!!!!!

Yeah I’m sure I would be able to find a job somewhere. But I really want a lifty job so if they fill up pretty fast I would be devo if I missed out.

I might be wrong here (Finney could shed some light on it though), but like any resort, people will quit/leave/vacate early on in the season due to their expectations not bein met/boyfriend/girlfriend probs/lack of fibre in their diet/and so on!!!!!

So I reckon there’s always a possie if ya have the drive to get one?????

All this stuff leasha has been talkin about has got my mind back into planning mode LOL
On that note, I will be coming over either October this year or late march, early april next. To say I can’t f**king wait is a sevre understatement!
I really have no idea what im going to end up doing for work over there, I would definitely like to give something on the mountain a shot, not overly fussed what, just has to be an outside job. Any recommendations?
Is it worth getting on craigslist or something similar to look for accom before I leave?
Whos going to be over there? Besides boss (gerks) & mrs boss (that ice prancer)
Im going to start getting my visa sorted when I get back from japan shaka

Assuming I get another visa I’ll be here next winter aswell Dylan.

So it dumped snow all night with extremely high winds in the alpine gusting over 160km/h!!!!!! gulp

End result being 49cm in 24hrs (total of 57cm in 48hrs) which has left most people going nuts. Unfortunately the winds have stuck around and the Alpine lifts are still closed which is making for some insane lift lines up the mountain and even crazier lines down in the valley, I’ve heard that it’s a 2 hour wait to get onto the Creekside gondola.

These 3 photo’s were taken by other lifties on the mountain and posted to facebook in the past hour.

Creekside Gondola - Photo by Miguel De Jesus

Garbanzo on Whistler - Photo by Taylor Russel.

Jersey Cream on Blackcomb - Photo by Michael Stokes.

Can quite honestly say I’ve never seen mid mountain line ups like this in my 4 previous seasons here - it’s does get that crazy in the Alpine though. Doesn’t come as much of a surprise though given that it’s a Saturday and it’s the first real powder day we’ve had all season.

On a more serious note with all the high winds there are going to be a lot of areas (even in bounds) with even more than 49cm’s of fresh snow present. As such the avalanche danger in the alpine is extreme today and remaining high for the coming days so be very careful out there as our base isn’t the greatest.
