Just wondering if anyone has any information on getting a bank account in canada, i just secured my job for the 2013/2014 season in whistler and am just trying to gather as much information as possible, i’ll be flying over from ireland by myself, the thing i need to know is, do you need prove of address to get a bank account and or do you just need identification, if anyone can shed some light on this for me i would be grateful!

Hey mate, welcome to Boardworld.

Open an account with RBC or TD Canada Trust, as these are the two main banks in Whistler.

I’m pretty sure you need to have an address attached to your account. Don’t quote me on that but I think they will probably need an address. I doubt they will need proof of address, but yeah, just an address so they can send you letters etc. If you don’t have accommodation yet, that should be fine, just provide the address for where you will be working. When you find accommodation, update your details with the bank.

I would actually give one of the banks a call and just ask them what you need to open an account.

RBC Whistler: +1 604-938-5800

Cheers mate going to give them a bell and just make sure.

Thanks!

go with TD they are a lot easier to deal with than RBC and you just need to give them any address and they give you your debit card on the spot once you’ve opened your account.
