Help please - best northern hemi summer camps

Hey all,

I’m wondering if you kind folk could please help me out. I’m heading to Sweden for a wedding in late May and I really want to hit up a summer camp to get some snowboard coaching in. I believe there are some good camps in Norway but I’m not sure which ones are the best, if they are open in May/early June and if they have an air-bag.

If anyone knows about any awesome summer camps in that region of the world, I’d be stoked to hear from you. Also, if there are any awesome summer camps open in May/early June in other parts of the world (e.g. the States/Canada), I’d be keen to know as a round-the-world ticket is definitely a possibility.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Shred_dawg!

Welcome to Boardworld!

I’m actually living in Sweden at the moment and doing a season in Åre. I have ridden in the norwegian resorts of Trysil and Hemsedal, but as yet have not made it to ride there in the summer.
What part of sweden are you going to for the wedding?

The main norwegian summer camp that I have heard about is at Folgefonna and that is the closest one to Oslo.
The other one I know about is in Stryn, which also isn’t too far from the ocean, and you can surf and snowboard in the same day, if the idea of that floats your boat!

A quick google gave me this page: http://www.fjords.com/summerski.shtml

that gives info about all the places you can ride in the summer in Norway. Probably a good place to start and read a bit, look at the map and then figure out which place you’d like to do more research on. Quick googling will probably give you dates of openings and camp dates etc.

Good luck and let us know if you have anymore questions!

Hey cords,

Thanks so much for the excellent info, it’s been very helpful. I’m super pumped about the trip and will be booking my plane tickets soon. The wedding is near Gavle so I think I’ll get a return flight into Oslo and then catch a train to Stockholm and then up to Gavle for the wedding.

How are you enjoying Are and are you there just to shred?

Ok. A bit more googling showed me the first camp for the season I could see was starting June 16th. ( http://www.whatcamps.com/blog )
..so I guess what suits best will depend on what date the wedding is etc.

Not the greatest start to the season so far here in Åre but enjoying it anyway. I love living overseas in somewhere that is just so damn different to Australia. I did a season here way back in ´08/´09 and have been here a couple of other times so it feels a bit like home here and always fun to be back.
Did the last season in another swedish resort called Sälen which was fun to do something different. My husband and a few good friends are swedish so that is how I ended up in Sweden of all places. Definitely here to shred and avoiding being a real grown up for as long as possible (31 and a 1/2 and still holding out!)
If we end up doing our possible summer plan of sailing to norway we are hoping to get a couple of days shredding in at Folgefonna (not summer camp though, we’d do it ourselves on the mega cheap!)....might even see ya there!

Let me know if you have any other questions and I’ll see what I can do!

Awesome, thanks again cords. I hope the season picks up for you and hopefully see you at one of the Norwegian summer camps!
