Was there from Mon-Thurs, it was not very good for this time around. Still lots of rocky patches and closed run, even jersey cream still has rocks. They opened the glacier on thursday which was pretty good but the road to the cattrack still not been made so we have to unstrap and walk quite far. Was gonna try cat or heliboarding but then the cat operation is not running yet, and the snow wasn’t deep for heliboarding so we decided not to do it. Overall I think this may have been one of the worst starts in Whistler (or maybe I’m spoiled for the past few seasons).

Sorry to hear it. Hopefully things will pick up soon. I remember it was a horrible start to the season in 2005, rained top to bottom on Christmas day, then turned to snow on Boxing Day and didn’t stop all season. January (at the time) was the snowiest month ever on record at 4.6 metres of snowfall in 31 days. Things can turn around very quickly.

I was there from Tuesday the 10th to Monday the 16th and had a blast.  Conditions at the base and lower part of the mountain weren’t he best, however, at the top of Blackcomb and especially Whistler, things were much better.

Harmony was pretty good I guess, the steeps has snow and good coverage. Didn’t go to Peak. Top of blackcomb was good only at the blackcomb glacier. Xiggy’s and Lakeside bowl is still closed at 7th heaven. Glacier express area still has lots of rocks, Crystal was pretty good until towards the bottom where there are some rocky patches. I don’t think they have Terrain Garden open too.

Let’s hope January will bring some snow.

Sorry for the lack of input here lately, lack of snow has definitely limited riding but I’ve been getting a lot of park riding in which is great as I’ve seen some progression in my riding.

My family is in town for christmas so I’m stoked to be hanging out with them again and as is to be expected I’m spending pretty much all my time outside of work with them which hasn’t left much time for getting a bit post together for here but I assure you there will be one before the end of the year.

I’ve just found out that the Whistler park has been relocated for now due to the lack of snow. As they don’t have snowmaking up the top where the park usually is they haven’t been able to do anything besides the 6 features at the top of Emerald and as such have moved the park to the lower mountain on Crabapple below the top of Fitzsimmons which is an interesting move but can see it really working there as it’ll have a dedicated chair along with solid snowmaking not to mention anyone who has ridden through there will can say that the terrain there with the rollers will make for a park which will flow really well. I’m hoping to get up and have a look at it tomorrow if I have the time.

Plan B
Snowmaking is crucial to the WB Park operations. Without it, 22’ pipes and 80’ jumps would be impossible since the cubic meters of snow required to construct such behemoth features is staggering. To date some 60-80 million gallons of water has been turned to snow in the Blackcomb Park allowing us to build a solid 25 features including some big jumps in the 30-50’ range. By the middle of next week we will be offering up the Highest Level jump line with four jumps in the +55’ range. (helmets mandatory on HL line)
Sadly the Whistler Park is not equipped with snowmaking so construction of the Park has stalled somewhat. Enter Plan B, if you can’t bring snowmaking to the Park, then bring the Park to snowmaking! We are moving our entire Whistler operation down to Crabapple Run which is equipped with massive snowmaking potential. We have been building for a couple of days and should be open before Santa comes down your chimney. You can expect jumps and jibs in the XS to S-M range with some great flow. Keep your eye on the WB Social Media Channels for news on its opening.
Merry Christmas,
Brian and the Park Crew.
