Board suggestion

Hey,

I would like to get a good board for intermediate rider. I like hitting some jumps and rails, doing presses etc, but also going fast and to ride powder even more this season.

I was thinking of buying 2013’s boards like: Custom Flying V (158cm) or maybe some DC board, like PLY(159cm). Could you tell me smth more about those boards? Or maybe i should choose different boards. What would you recommend guys. I’m 178cm and 87kg.

Please have a read through and let us know which camber profile(s) appeal to you. That way it will be a lot easier to narrow down board choice to suit your needs.

Personally, I would highly recommend you look at the Hybrid (Type B) profile, aka CamRock. I think it would be perfect based on what you’re asking for.

I was thinking more about Hybrid (type A) but type B could be fine too. Could you recommend some boards from each type? I don’t need to have 2014 model, 2013 should be fine too if I can fine one.

The Custom Flying V would be at the top of my list if you’re looking for a Type A hybrid. It’s a very versatile board and will handle anything from park to pow. Lib Tech also have a great range of boards with this camber profile. The reason I’m recommending against this profile is you said you like to ride rails and also ride fast. This camber profile is one of the most unstable on rails; the same can be said for riding fast. In a nutshell, it’s not a very stable profile, however it rides really well in powder.

Otherwise, I would look at the YES range. Something like the Asym would be ideal, or the Jackpot if you want something softer for jibbing. Stability while still offering a playful ride with good float in powder. http://www.yesnowboard.com/

Hey, thanks for the reply.  I thought about rails but i don’t ride them so much as slope + pow which the most interesting for me. Board for such conditions is my primary first choice.

I’d still go for the CamRock type camber profile though. It’s more versatile on the mountain. It’s more stable with more pop, but still floats well in powder. The Flying V profile will probably float a bit better but it’s definitely less stable at speeds. It really depends what you want out of your board.

That said, if you still want rocker between your feet and camber under your feet, Burton’s Custom Flying V would be a great choice. It will provide you with everything you’re looking for.

And should I get Malavitas or bindigs such as Cartels will do the job? Also is there any significant difference between 2012 and 2013 Malavitas?

Malavitas or Cartels will serve you very well. There wouldn’t be much difference between the 2012 and 2013 models.
