Hi Guys
Hoping for a little feedback and some ideas.
Ozgirl sent me a book called the powder bible and its basically about chasing the snow storms around the US. So I was thinking of saving as much as I can this year then quitting my job, buying a 4wd and going snowboarding all season in the US and maybe Canada. (as I am over 30, this is going to be a totally non working holiday)
Then the next part struck me, assuming my funds are still good I was thinking of taking said 4wd and driving from the US down the coast to Mexico….then further south and bit further after that till I eventually end up in Argentina and then Chile and start snowboarding all over again. Basically stay till I run out of cash, sell the 4wd and fly home to Sydney and back to a life of IT drudgery.
Has anyone done something similar before.
It all depends on ur life style I think, and what you leaving behind ? Eg mortgages or anything really you need to pay off.
If you dont have any of that and not planning to have anytime soon I would say go for it you live once.
But maybe look in to renting RV or buying something similar that u could live in ? Just an option.
.
Dude you totally need to do this it sounds amazeballs!!!!
Just need to pimp the 4wd out and make it you castle for who knows how long.
Any idea where you would start or just where ever the know is thickest at the time?
You gonna do it solo?????
All I can think of is that money won’t be your main issue once you start to drive from Mexico down!!!!!
Would definitely be an epic adventure, but you’re gonna have to be ready for any situation!!!!!
DO IT!
Accommodation and lift passes will be your biggest expenses, so like Lano said, maybe consider getting some kind of vehicle that you can sleep in - maybe a 4WD and then get one of those roof top boxes you can sleep in, like the Jucy vans have.
However, since you are chasing snow it would be freezing a lot of the time so you would have to spend up a bit on all the right outdoor gear.
I’VE GOT IT!!
Corporate Sponsorship for all your passes! hahahaha
Travelling journo..
Dude, that sounds so epic! You should do it for sure!
Definitely talk to me about your plans too, as we might be able to organise some sort of sponsorship as Wilmshurst suggested.
Michelle and I are planning a pretty epic 2015 too, with a 3 month backpacking stint in Europe sandwiched between back-to-back seasons in Whistler, followed by summer in Whistler (Camp of Champions)!
If I’ve learnt one thing in my 30 years on this planet, if you can make things like this happen, you should bloody well do it! Opportunities to have incredible adventures like this don’t come knocking all the time. You know very well how stoked you will be and you will be saying, “best decision I’ve ever made.”
Keep us posted as your plans form. Definitely come visit us in BC.
Ok mate, please don’t let this slip through your fingers, Nike the shit out of it ha ha ha!
Do it, but it’s taking concrete actions to make it happen. I usually travel solo and can be spontaneous if I feel in the mood for it. I’ve also racked up a lot of FF miles, which I reserve for last-minute travel or expensive destinations.
Despite a number of travails over the past few years, my travel experiences always make me smile, including the bad ones. I’m tied down to the job right now, after a rather extended unemployment, but still try to see new stuff on the weekends. But I think you Aussies are used to traveling long distances and going to far off corners of the world.
There’s a lot of wonderful stuff OUT there, so in a shameless plug, here’s one of mine on my blog (in fact my first-ever blog post).
I cant believe no one here has mentioned brothers on the run yet?!?!
Firth things first go and watch these
Brothers on the Run*
Sounds like a f#(king epic trip!! As NBG said “Nike the shit out of it”
*if you can do it as good as John & Eric did please share your lotto winnings with me

Mate, sounds like a plan. No excuses - you must do this. When you’re done let us know and you can tell us all about it and we’ll feature it ST MAG, would make a mean story.
