Did you guys hear about the fire in the village?
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/fire-in-whistler-village-1.2438254
Yeah was down there just after they had put it out. The entire road behind the building was blocked off for most of the night with fire engines and ambos.
All the businesses in that building are closed because of smoke or water damage which really sucks because a few of the businesses were just about finished doing renovations and getting ready to open for the first time this season. There has been a few benifits raising money for people who are out work because of the fire which is really awesome to see how the whole community gets involved.
The other terrible thing about this was the fire apparently flared up again inside the building the next day but all is under control and repairs can start although no one knows how long it will be before all is back to normal..
That’s crazy! Yeah, I heard that too. Apparently the fire department put out the fire the day earlier, but left some burning embers, which caused the bigger fire. I’m not sure how true that is but it’s what I have been told.
It’s very sad for all the businesses involved, but good to hear everything is coming together to help. Hopefully they can get everything open again soon.

Yeah, that’s what the story in the link said!!!!!
Kinda weird though?????
Yeah pretty crazy news, heard about it off Louise as her apartment is in one of the neighbouring buildings down that way. Walked past yesterday and you could see some of the fire affected areas up the top of the building. Pretty scary that there have been so many fires this year compared to any other year that I’ve been here.
As for the whole snowboarding thing.. Garbanzo opened over the weekend which was great fun, basically lapped it all day on Sunday doing some hit run laps. Unfortunately we’ve been seeing some pretty heavy inversion here which is not helping out the snow at all. It’s all very hardpacked and icy from the gondola midstation up and there isn’t much snow forecast to come over the coming week so it’s making for some fairly average riding early on in the day but it it softening up a little in the afternoon which is good. The limited terrain open at the moment is getting a bit repetitive however with Blackcomb opening on Thursday it’ll bring variety which will be great. I’m really looking forward to riding more Blackcomb this year compared to previous years where I’ve spent the majority of my time on Whistler.
So I did a few laps today ended up going from top of village gondola down to village twice. Did a couple of laps down to base of Big Red but all the runs started getting really icy so i called it a day.
Legs and back are feeling much better today getting used to these longer runs and different terrain. Starting to get more excited about Blackcomb opening this Thursday looking forward to some less tracked out runs and a bit more space to move with less people on one mountain.
Sarah is getting out there for the first time tomorrow with a lesson and she’s really excited to just be on the snow regardless of wether she’s riding or not.
Yew!!

Blackcomb Mountain to Open at Whistler Blackcomb Thursday November 28
PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola and Full Size Terrain Park Also Opening
WHISTLER, BC November 27, 2013 – This Thursday, November 28, Whistler Blackcomb will complete its winter kick-off by opening Blackcomb Mountain to skiers and snowboarders. After two successful weeks operating on Whistler Mountain, the operations team has readied Blackcomb Mountain which will add approximately 700 acres of terrain to Whistler’s 1000+ acres for guests to enjoy. Blackcomb’s lift operations team notes there will be seven lifts opening including the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola. Guests will have the option to either upload at the Wizard Express in the Upper Village, the Excalibur Gondola in Whistler Village, or cross over from Whistler Mountain via the PEAK 2 PEAK. Also opening on Blackcomb will be the Excelerator Chair, Solar Express, Jersey Cream and Catskinner chairs. As an added bonus, the Whistler Blackcomb Terrain Park crew has been putting in long hours to have a full terrain park built and ready to ride on Thursday.
“We are extremely excited to get guests up on both mountains and are proud of the hard work our operations teams have been putting into our opening days,” says Doug MacFarlene, Mountain Manager at Whistler Blackcomb. “We’ve been focusing on our snowmaking to help out Mother Nature and with our recent snowmaking upgrades on Blackcomb things are looking really good. Again we would like to remind guests it is still early season, and it is important to obey signage and ski and ride on open runs only.”
BLACKCOMB - OPENING DAY

Haven’t been over to Blackcomb yet as I worked thu-sun and rode Whistler today but tomorrow its looking like I’ll be heading over with a few people to check out what the park has to offer.
Woke up this morning to great news that we received 16cm of fresh snow last night with the temperature and freezing level both dropping through the night resulting in snow all the way to the village.
Met up with Steph and Chantelle first thing then through the day the group grew up to a maximum of 8 people at one time with a handful leaving early to go to work.
Took up the new board so I was a little tentative at first but after a couple of inbounds laps we started ducking the temporary boundary ropes to chase more fresh lines and we were definitely rewarded through the Garbonzo zone. To be riding with Andy, Ty and Chantelle was great fun, really felt like a proper reunion of the 2010-2011 crew.
Unfortunately I didn’t get many photo’s through the day as we were all just so stoked to be riding fresh snow for the first time this season, really felt like it was the 1st proper day of winter. The one photo worth posting from today was this photo of the sun and a rainbow reflecting in Steph’s goggles after our 2nd lap down to Emerald.
As usual got a few more random snaps from the past week.
Early morning Emerald laps
Crazy sunrise on the way to work this week.
Sun breaking through the clouds on Wednesday afternoon.
Cheers for the update Finney
it’s posts like these that are helping me get through my day. I literally have done nothing except hide from the boss since 830 this morning (it’s now 1130), I’m bored shitless, literally! (Ive done 3 already today), and it’s all because they couldn’t organize parts to get here. Deano I now feel your pain
Whats the new board Finney? Im being lazy and not looking back through the thread

Went with a Slash by gigi- Happy Place. Really stood out for me after seeing some reviews and looking into the tech and profile of the board, was looking around for some alternatives to a Yes as I’ve ridden them for the past 3 seasons and figured it could be worth trying something slightly different for a change. The cutout in the nose feels great on grabs and it has a nice and stiff nose and tail. Rides simlar to the Yes tasman but feels a somewhat different. haven’t put my finger on it just yet although it’s only been on day on it.
Sweet, looking forward to your review on it! Been eyeing off their boards for a while. I like the look of that because it has flat under foot like my k2, but in the middle has camber for more spring, and kicks out after the inserts.
