Hey everyone,

My name is Alysha and I’m from Australia :D shaka

I posted something on here not too long ago titled 2014 season. I don’t know if it worked or how to find it. It pretty much said I want to head to Canada to work the 2014 snow season and if anyone could give me so info on how I should go about it.

Hi Alysha!
Best place to seek this info is in the Mountains and Travel section.  Lots of info already, but posting in there with types of riding you want to do and where etc is the best place for fellow travellers to give you as much info as they can!!
and most importantly, welcome to Boardworld!!  ollie

Welcome Leesha!

You posted in the girls section which is fine. Will leave it there with a link to Mountains and travel like Snowdragon suggested.

One of our members is in Sun Peaks right now (and by the sounds of how he is enjoying himself I think he will be there next season!)

Go read some threads over there I think you will enjoy them grin

Hey Alysha,

I’m at Sun Peaks at the moment, it’s amazing here. Check out the Canada Mega Thread first 4 posts for how to get a Visa and some information etc. That thread is here: https://www.boardworld.com.au/forums/viewthread/13765/

And check out my blog on the Sun Peaks page or at http://bwcanada.weebly.com/tjs-experience.html

One of the perks about Sun Peaks is that you do not need to go through the Working Holiday club to get a job. This means you save about $500-$1000 just to get here. Depending what you want to work as, it is pretty easy to get a job here. I got a lifty job and staff accom and have a second job working in the Mexican Restaurant as a server (tips in Canada are too nice haha). Living in Staff Accommodation is pretty sweet here too since you can get a room to yourself if you’re early enough and pretty much everyone here is awesome friends already!

To be honest, either get a job as a Lifty (awesome) or get an indoor job. The ticketers make a few small bonuses when working but they have to be out in the cold all the time rather than being able to go in the hut and warm up like us. And as a female, you’d either be on a detach lift (easy) or something like tube time (which starts and ends late). I get to bump the fixed grip lifts and while it’s awesome, my muscles are only just starting to come in hahaha.

Feel free to PM me if you want more details or have any questions or just post here.

Hey TJ,

Thanks a lot for you info it’s really helpful, hopefully I can score a job at SP for next season. My cousin worked there last season and he loved it, how are you finding it so far? Do you ever get the chance to go into cities or just stay on the mountain?
I sen’t you a pm asking more about how you got the job, I already have my visa form just need to send it off smile  cheese

I’ve been down to Kamloops once since the season started… at night and watched the hobbit with some shopping and a five guys burger. Still shredded that day.

Currently 35 out of 36 days with a snowboard on my feet (the 1 was when I got put on Parking duty, 2nd day of the season!

Don’t worry about the job. Sun Peaks has tons of jobs going. There are 50+ lifties and as long as you’re a normal person and apply pretty early on when the jobs come up, you’ll be fine. There are also ticketing jobs and food / bev jobs that generally have some availability if you don’t get the lifty job.

Current plans for me aren’t made since I’ve got a good 3+ months left of work in Sun Peaks. Not really thinking too much about it yet but there is a good chance I’ll travel for a month or so after the season and then probably come home and get a contract job for 3-6 months and work out what I’m planning to do with my life.

Then I’ll decide on how I feel. This place is amazing but I have a few different options. I could come back and do it again. I could go to a different mountain (I’m sure I can get a job without a program now, Bowen and Lou would vouch for me and I could get a ton of contacts). Or stay in Australia and enjoy the first summer I’ll have had in a year and a half, get a new motorbike and hang out with my friends and family.

If I end up staying in Australia, there is always the get a new visa and come back in 2015 option. But this is all future Tristan stuff to worry aboot, I’m loving every minute at the moment!

You could also get a working holiday visa for another different country and go try life there! (somewhere in europe, for example!)
