I’ll have to watch this when I get home!!!!!
But damn, just the thought of this waffles from Crystal Hut has made me drool on my shirt!!!!!
So today was my first day out and about for lift ops training for the season and I got to wear uniform for the first time - brand freaking new north face gear! Gotta say I’m a little freaked out with all the rules and guidelines and such. None the less I’m looking forward to it and the different opportunities that I’ll have.
We covered so much I’m still trying to get it straight in my brain but we covered emergency rescue on the detachable and fixed lifts which was fun catching one of the other trainees as he dropped from a few meters. We also covered etiquette to guests, terminology, grooming/ uniform and different jobs in lift ops like the early start or close up.
Tomorrow is FSO (first season orientation) so basically sitting there hearing about how Whistler Blackcomb operates as a company and all their different departments operate and work together blah blah blah
And once again it’s snowing outside the window.. :D

Hahaha don’t worry mate, you’ll be rocking up hunger over as fuck and watching kids get dragged upside down in no time.
but seriously its all good once you get in the swing of it. FYI buy some seriously warm socks. my feet were def the coldest part of my body when standing at the lift. also get a rubber mat at your hut so you don’t have to stand on snow.

Hey guys, how’s it looking in Whistler? Is the snow sticking around down the bottom? The photos from a couple of days ago looked awesome!
The snow here is sticking around. We should get a bit more at Sun Peaks before the start and then most runs should open on the first day
Whis opening this sat! Yewwww :D
WHISTLER BLACKCOMB OPENING EARLY - SATURDAY NOVEMBER 16
Whistler Mountain opens 13 days early for eager skiers and riders
WHISTLER, BC November 13, 2013 - Thanks to cold temperatures, impressive snowmaking and natural snowfall Whistler Mountain will open thirteen days early on Saturday, November 16. With five lifts running, guests will have the option to upload from either the Whistler Village Gondola or the Creekside Gondola. Blackcomb Mountain will open, as scheduled, on American Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 28, 2013.
“Early season snowfall combined with our snowmaking team converting over 60 million gallons of water into snow the past few weeks, has allowed us to get things started early again this season,” says Doug MacFarlane, mountain manager at Whistler Blackcomb. “With all the excitement of opening day, we want to remind guests early season conditions will apply, especially off piste. It is important to obey mountain signage, ski and ride on open runs only and stay within the operational area marked by “Temporary Boundary” signage. Guests should be aware there will be rocks and other hazards below the snow surface; we do not recommend skiing and riding outside the temporary boundary in any circumstances.”
First upload on the Whistler Village Gondola and Creekside Gondola will begin at 8:30 am, with last upload at 2:30pm on November 16. Emerald Express, Big Red Express and the Franz Chair lifts will be running, allowing access to 1800 vertical feet of skiing and riding terrain. Runs set to open will include Ego Bowl, Upper Whiskey Jack, Upper Franz, Papoose, Orange Peel and Pony Trail. Stay tuned for more and to keep updated with the most up-to-date information about lift status, visit http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/the-mountain/lifts-and-grooming/index.
Whistler Mountain dining locations will also be open on November 16, including Essentially Blackcomb Cappuccino Bar in the Carleton Lodge, Dusty’s Bar & Grill in Creekside, the Roundhouse Lodge on Whistler Mountain, and the Garibaldi Lift Co., Whistler’s world-famous location for après.
Whistler Blackcomb Guest Relations will operate from the Blackcomb Day Lodge, Creekside and Whistler Village on Friday, November 15 from 9am-7pm and on Saturday from all three locations from 7am-5pm. From Sunday onwards only the Village and Creekside Guest Relations will operate from 8am-5pm each day until Blackcomb Mountain opens on Thursday, November 28 and the Blackcomb Day Lodge opens again.
Hey guys, how’s it looking in Whistler? Is the snow sticking around down the bottom? The photos from a couple of days ago looked awesome!
The snow has hung around up in the peaks but unfortunately there has been lots of rain for the last three days which has washed nearly all the snow in the valley away.
On the up side Whistler mountain opens on Saturday! Still don’t know if I’ll be running lifts for opening yet but hope to know as soon as possible.
Lifty night tonight at Merlin’s for a few beverages with the return lift ops then dinner with the whole crew at Longhorns!! YEW!!
Will post some pics and the like soon..
How was opening day? Did all you guys get up there?
I didn’t get to go =(
Heck yeah got up there yesterday and did a few laps. The cover felt pretty good and sun was out making it a really good opening day!
There were only a few lifts spinning so it’s was only a small amount of terrain open but it was still really fun to just get back into riding and get used to the differences between riding in Australia and Canada. One of the biggest differences being that the runs are so freaking long it’s awesome but when your legs are only used to sorter runs it’s a massive leg killer.
So yeah only did a few laps and had a bast until I took a few decent stacks and ended up struggling to walk to the gondola at the end of the day and can barely walk at all let alone bend to reach halfway down my shins. So I haven’t left the couch today just trying to recover and get some form of flexibility going.
white space :-(
I’m not watching, I’m not watching!!!!!
