I think you may be right about the skiing thing. Can’t remember for sure. But I know he turned back in recent years.

No idea about the commentating. Haven’t seen him in at least two years or so.

Jay was contracted to both the Seven and Nine network broadcasts of the Winter Olympics, so I guess we’ll see if he’s picked up by Ten? I’m not sure who else they could get? Any ideas?

He’s by no means the only snowboarder to come out of the closet - Pete Murphy, the guy who put riding/skiing Japan on the map (with a huge amount of help from me), now almost exclusively freeheel skis.

another not sure if i like or dislike kinda guy, but he’d fit 10’s ‘hip to the kids’ image

That’s the thing! He kinda does fit the Ten ‘image’.

Hey if they ever introduced ‘riding coat tails’ as an Olympic event, he’d win gold for sure!

Steph Hickey will be covering snowboard as will Mitch Tomlinson for Ten network.

“With 100 days to go until the XXII Olympic Winter Games from Sochi, Russia, the Ten Network has announced details of what it promises is the biggest free-to-air coverage ever in Australia of a Winter Olympics.
The network is promising more than 550 hours of coverage across both channels Ten and One — including 360 hours of live coverage.

Ten will also offer eight channels of streamed coverage via its Ten Play online platform.
Ten’s nightly coverage will be headed by Sochi Tonight, hosted by Stephen Quartermain and Winter Olympic gold medalist Alisa Camplin OAM, screening at 6.00pm. Sochi Live, hosted by Mel McLaughlin at Olympic Park in Sochi and Stephen Quartermain and Alisa Camplin in Melbourne, will provide live coverage throughout the evening. Brad McEwen takes over hosting Sochi Live overnight through to 5.30am.

One will broadcast Winter Olympics coverage 24 hours a day during competition. From 6.00pm to 6.00am Greg Rust and Nicole Livingstone will host live coverage of events, while during the daytime hours One will present competition highlights.
Ten’s news and current affairs portfolio, including Ten Eyewitness News, Wake Up and The Project will also incorporate Games coverage with their own reporters and presenters onsite at Sochi.

Commentators and presenters across the network’s coverage include Winter Olympic gold medalist Steven Bradbury OAM, three-time Olympian Steven Lee, former Olympians David Culbert and Steph Hickey, Snowboard expert Mitch Tomlinson, Freestyle Ski expert Luke Kneller, CEO of Ski and Snowboard Australia Michael Kennedy, Ten Sport journalists Lachie Reid and Rob Waters, Ten Sport presenter Mark Howard, Wake Up‘s Magdalena Roze, Nuala Hafner and Mazoe Ford and Ten Eyewitness News’ Danielle Isdale, Scott Mackinnon, Matt Doran, Melinda Nucifora and Max Futcher”
