Shaun White: Its Not Hate Its Disappointment
Shaun White is awesome. He’s out there, snowboarding and skating in some way that let’s face it, none of us here could do (sorry all you BW legends- and Deano).
Who knows what he’s like in his head? In his family? Maybe he is on the autism spectrum. I know plenty of people who are particularly good at what they can do, but looking outside the square isn’t on their agenda. Social skills lacking, the focus is just on getting the job done. I have no idea if this IS Shaun White. But it might be.
Why hate him? Who has time or energy to HATE another person who really has done nothing to harm them or their family. Every sport/job/government/profession/religion/belief system/etc has people we do not admire, or respect. And this is from our viewpoint.
I am never going to meet Shaun White. If we sat down face to face, and talked, I might find he wasn’t the kind of person I respected.
There’s a lot of people who have a public persona that’s very different to their private persona.
So a thread about how Shaun White is loved and hated has turned into this mess.

Is Snowboarding destroyed now? Hardly. It’s doing great and just added another SB event to the Olympics.
The Olympics is hardly the benchmark for snowboarding success. We should NOT view the FIS/IOC making snowboarding their b!tch as cause for celebration.
All he has done is compete like crazy, pick up a few cheesy sponsors and wear his pants too tight.
I think he’s an awesome pipe jock - but does that excuse the fact that off the board, he’s a dick?

I like that Azz is trying to keep things friendly. We are all mates here after all. But I don’t feel like Chucky is attacking me. He’s just giving his thoughts on things I (and others) said. Nothing wrong with that if it’s friendly. If I’m gunna put my opinion out there I expect to hear other peoples as well.
SO to reply to these in order:
- No the Olympics certainly don’t represent everything we do. But it was just an example of how the snowboarding is staying strong. The Skiers are coming back you know! 
Also, did I celebrate Slopestyle becoming an olympic event? Damn right I did!
- I don’t really know of a time when he has been a dick to anyone.
- He may have a slight ego. Much less than most athletes at the top of their game. But more than most snowboarders I guess. I’ll give u that one, but I’ve never thought “geez this guy loves himself”. It’s pretty slight.
And as for the “Censored” word. I wasn’t talking about the word B I T C H.
The author said that “Shaun White is the A^@L Sex of snowboarding”. What a horrible way to sum up someone’s career. I don’t care what his reasons are, there’s no call for that. I see Shaun as the Michael Jackson of snowboarding. He’s been doing it since he was a kid. He has been raised in a weird twisted media environment. He’s not going to be normal. But he does what he knows and gives his all. Imagine working your whole life for something, only to have people say things like that about you.

In what way exactly was MY use of the word “derogatory towards women”? As with many other words, it now has more than one meaning - and it was the most appropriate word to use in the context in which I used it.
It’s not difficult to see why even though Boardworld has almost 70,000 social media subscribers, not even one percent of them are motivated to interact on the forums. Perhaps a GetUp! or Greens sponsorship might pick things up, or a merger with the Country Women’s Association? Pussies.
