I finally arrived in Vancouver this morning and now just looking forward to moving up to the mountain tomorrow!
The snow is coming!!!
8cm in the next 24 hours and 11cm on Saturday!!!
Its coming boys and girls its really about to start!!!!
I’ve been looking out my window every morning and seeing how much further down the mountain the snowmakers are getting it made. If you cant tell I’m just a little bit stoked!!!
Looking forward to meeting up with folks as the arrive in whistler for if you rock up send me a text on 6049027717 and we can meet up!
Yeah it’s a pretty good thing seeing that the snowmaking has kicked off. They started last sunday night and have been going at it as much as they can with the lower temps we’ve been having lately. Must say it is nice to see some natural snowfall aswell in the last 24 hours with hopefully a whole lot more on the way. They’re calling for over 20cm’s in the alpine and with the temps for this week it should hopefully stick around which is good.
Late last week snowmaking were up near where I’m working at Glacier Creek moving all the snowguns into place via heli which was pretty amazing to see. The pilots are pretty amazing and so efficient, significantly quicker than towing each up into place by truck as they’d have 3 guns carried up by the heli in less than 5 mins.
Heres a shot taken on Monday morning after the first night of snowmaking, gives a good idea of just how much snow can be produced by the snowguns in one night. Credit to all the snowmaking guys and girls as they work long hours all through the day and night which leaves them with little to no social life at the start of the season all in order to make sure we can ride
For those here I’d suggest bookmarking the snow-forecast website as I’ve found it to be the most accurate of all the forecast websites and constantly updated with forecasts for different elevations which is great due to the huge elevation changes here. They also break up the forecast to AM, PM and Night which is a huge help as you can make the call to head up first thing or maybe a touch later in the day when the snow could be better.

I’m still working a lot at the moment which is great, starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with the project I’m working on at the moment but it’ll be a very busy next 2 weeks and potentially interesting working conditions with the new snowfall as it will most likely be settling where we are which will probably mean we’ll have to put chains on the trucks from now on just to get up there. If the heavy snow continues could almost be sledding up there by the time the season kicks off and I go back to my Lift Ops job.
Working so much my body clock has me up pretty early most days and I can’t sleep past 8am so I’ve been going on a few morning walks which is great, I’d recommend walking around Lost Lake to anyone in town as it’ll be closed to foot traffic during Winter as it becomes a cross country ski trail. It’s a pretty amazing place thats easily found and a great way to kill off a few hours if you’re looking for something to do. Theres also plenty of XC bike trails out there for anyone into biking who plans to be out here for summer swell.
Quite happy with this shot as there was a tiny break in the clouds and you could see the Whistler P2P tower through it surrounded by snow. Once again my phone camera doesn’t really do it justice.
Caught up with TJ when he was in town last week along with Nick and Aaron for quite a few drinks in true BW style I was a bit hazy by the end of the night. as seen previously TJ says Whistler is awesome so I’m guessing we’ll be seeing him back here again in the not too distant future haha
I’ve just moved into my new place in Whistler Cay Heights and have just about finished unpacking but theres still a bit more to go. Above my bed theres a skylight which is pretty cool, can’t wait to wake up and see snow falling onto it in the coming weeks.
Also for anyone interested my housemates run the following website which has local events and some cool articles on it.
Here are a few other random pics I’ve taken since my last post from the last weekends that Whistler was open to sight seeing.
Black Tusk in the distance from the top of Harmony
View down Harmony from Pikas Traverse and 7th Heaven in the background
Few new park features waiting to be installed at the top of Emerald for the start of the season.
I put my new setup together the other week and it had me feeling like a little kid on christmas morning haha - Also I’ve heard of some potential opening dates and it looks like we’ll be shredding in no time if snowmaking and mother nature decide to play well with eachother
Just a quick update - Friend just posted this on facebook from the alpine shop on Blackcomb. He’s saying 2-3 feet on the ground and it’s still puking up there
Sorry mate, moved in here at sun peaks and it’s amazing! Much better staff accom and the village and people have all been super friendly! After all the Aussies I met going to whistler on Saturday and Thursday nights and most of them being dicks, I think it’s safe to say I’ll be staying!
Meet a bunch of Canadians from Ontario last night and they fed me and we hung out and it’s already starting to feel like home

The Wonder Reels, S2: Waffles And Wagers
A chairlift shared by a foursome of skiers and snowboarders on Blackcomb Mountain’s new Crystal Ridge Express leads to a friendly wager for waffles at the Crystal Hut. We get treated to a romp through Crystal Zone while the last one to the bottom buys waffles back at the top.
