Ya I don’t mind the private training stuff, it’s just a lot of people think don’t think that way.
A lot of people, have a lot of time, to do a lot of whingin!!!!!
That Angry Snowboarder Dude is just creatin controversy to bolster his own site!!!!!
He makes money off puttin shit on others, yet he thinks that Shaun White is the one that has done nothin for Snowbarding?????
Time for Angry to look in the mirror!!!!!

I have no issues at all with the private training facilities. The truth is this was probably more for marketing than anything else. All world class athletes get every opportunity to train for events like the Olympics.
The main point here: Shaun wouldn’t have these opportunities if he didn’t earn it. He’s an incredibly hard worker and telented competitor, and thus rose to a level never seen before in competition snowboarding. Because of that, sponsors now throw money at him and give him private training facilities. 100% earned. Good on him.
That Angry Snowboarder Dude is . . .
. . . an ignorant cretin who gets it embarrassingly wrong WAY more than he gets it right.
I think the main reason why so many dedicated snowboarders hate on SW is because he appears to be only ever training, competing or promoting - never just riding for the love of it.
Well said chucky
Agreeing with Chucky again.
I do think that’s what people think about Shaun White for sure. They think he’s a soulless snowboarder.
DESPITE WHAT SOUTH PARK WILL TELL YOU - GINGERS DO HAVE SOULS!!!
I think he is in it for the love of it. He’s never once said in an interview that it’s hard work. He’s seems happy all the time, despite people putting shit on him for no reason. I think he’s doing exactly what he loves.

I said exactly the same thing in my original post , but then edited it because I didn’t want to keep the hate going…. It’s bloody true though.
Syphon some more attention why don’t you.
Oh my days. Yet another Shaun White bashing article has just emerged.
NO I will not post it. I won’t give publicity to someone who feeds on tearing others down.
“Shaun White isn’t a real snowboarder cause he works too hard?” JESUS !!
Do these editors even snowboard?? Or Skate? Or Surf?... Frickin play Lawn Bowls? Practice is required!
Winning comps is what enables some riders to have the life they lead. That’s why they want to win! They want to keep Snowboarding. Period. Comps enable that.
Sometimes training and instructor exams suck the fun out of snowboarding for me. But win or lose, I come out of them a better snowboarder. And building my career (however small) allows me to make just enough money to keep snowboarding all year round. Worth it.
Even riders with the most chilled careers who only film videos… They work hard! They spend hours or even days on a shot that runs for 4 seconds of their video part. Not to mention the weeks or months it took them to learn that trick. They work hard to allow them to continue the life that they love.
I am officially done. I can’t waste another minute on this crap.
I think he is in it for the love of it. . . I think he’s doing exactly what he loves.
Yes, “he is in it for the love of it” - but for SW, “it” is not snowboarding, “it” is WINNING.
Would SW still snowboard if the competitive aspect was taken out of the equation? Probably not.
Does it really matter if he is doin it for the thrill of Winning?????
It’s his life, he’s doin no harm to anyone, so let him live HIS Dream!!!!!
I definitely agree with Andy on this one. Of course he loves doing what he does. Of course he loves snowboarding. So what if he loves competitive snowboarding? So what if he’s driven by the thrill of competing and winning? This is his chosen path and his livelihood. He chose this path based on passion and skill. If you can be the best in the world at something, anything, as if you wouldn’t pursue it with all your energy. If I’ve won back-to-back Olympic gold medals, of course I would want to do everything in my power to defend my title, especially if I’m still the best in the world.
Not only has Shaun risen to the top, but he’s maintained that position for 10 years! And not only that, he’s still managed to become one of the best vert skaters in the world!
Asking whether Shaun could do more to help snowboarding is a valid question, but questioning his love and passion for this career, and yes, snowboarding, is a bit ridiculous in my option. That’s when valid questioning turns to unnecessary bashing.
I’m stoked on what Shaun has achieved. I have a signed photo from his 2006 gold medal win. I will be watching when he competes in Sochi next year, and I for one be stoked if he wins a third straight gold medal. All the success that comes his way, has been earned!
Yet another Shaun White bashing article has just emerged.
I think this is the most pertinent paragraph of Ed Leigh’s article:
“The interesting thing about both of the weaknesses (winning at all costs / only in it for the money) is that in the NBA, PGA, Premier League etc. an instinctive desire to win at all costs is a prerequisite and no one bats an eye at a player cashing in while he can. In short these priorities are the foundation of the modern professional athlete.”
When I used to race mountain bikes, it was an awesome community feel where everyone was in it together. Things started to change for the worse as soon as the UCI took over en route to MTB racing becoming an Olympic sport, and the soul was irreparably sucked right out of it. The FIS is doing the exact same thing to competitive snowboarding, and rather than stand up against it like Terje famously did, Shaun White chose to be the face of that change. You reap what you sow.
Someone more insightful than me said earlier in the year that ‘Shaun rides a snowboard, but he is not a snowboarder’
Was that you, Chucky?????
Nothing’s changed there Chucky- the FIS has been there for a while, and Shaun did not become the face of FIS ruining snowboarding.
