Buying snowboard, burton Flying V or Ride manic??

I am 6’3, 200-210 lbs. I am in Japan and need a new board.  I would say I’m a intermediate rider.  I hit jumps do 180’s, get on some box’s never really go on rails, but interested in hitting the park more but still cruise. So I’m looking at all mountain boards. I’m looking at either getting a burton process Flying V, or a Ride Manic. Don’t know much about ride but seems like a pretty legit board. Any advice/info on them would be appreciated. Also what are some good bindings to roll with?

Hey Adam, welcome to Boardworld. cool smile

I’ll talk about the differences in the boards and that should help you make a more informed decision.

Camber profiles: Burton’s “Flying V” profile vs Ride’s “All Mountain Rocker” profile

Both these board are going to feel similar to a full rockered board, while neither of them actually are full rockers. I would suggest that Burton’s Flying V profile will feel “looser”, making for very quick turn initiation. Ride’s All Mountain Rocker profile will definitely feel more stable with its flat section between the feet. While it still has rocker in the nose and tail (more in the nose), I can only assume the Burton would float noticeably better in powder.

Shape: Twin vs Directional

The Process has a twin shape while the Manic has a directional shape. In a nutshell, the Process will ride switch a bit easier, giving you more versatility on the freestyle side of things.

Overall:

The main differences have been highlighted above. Overall, the Burton is geared a bit more for freestyle and park riding, while still having great performance in powder. What you sacrifice with the Burton is stability; at speeds, carving, general freeriding and even on rails/boxes. The Ride is geared towards all mountain and freeriding, while still being easy to ride and having solid performance in powder. What you sacrifice here is freestyle versatility, but you gain general stability.

Both these boards would be great to ride. You just need to have a think about which of these characteristics appeals to you the most.

Please feel free to ask me any questions.

Seein as though ya gonna be hittin the Park more, I’d go with the Ride!!!!! Plus the flat profile will give ya better edge hold on the hardpack, and the tips will be there for the Pow!!!!!

And couple it with the Flux DM, SF, or TT Binders!!!!! $$$ > $ All stiffer Responsive style models!!!!!

* This is the opinion of M Kuma, and the rest of you can go and get stuffed if ya don’t like it!!!!!
