As for your 3 photo’s of SW they would want to be the best dam photo’s you’ve ever shot.

You’re right, spaz, - and no offence gravitysports, but they’d have to be a million times percent better than that one with the closed sign and all the others you have on on Instagram.

At best; A cover on a Sydney Newspaper will net up to $10K if it’s an exclusive, top quality image no-one else has.
In reality; (given the number of photogs shooting SW at Perisher) you would be lucky to get $50 for a published shot of him

As for what it may be worth - don’t give up your day job. The only real chance of a snowsport pic on a newspaper cover (except of an Aussie competitor winning Olympic gold) would be the sports or travel sections. I’ve shot the cover (a snowboarder in Ohau, NZ) for the Sydney Morning Herald weekend travel liftout section (which was then syndicated to the other majors around Australia), and they paid a LOT less than you’d imagine.

Unless you’ve got an exclusive paparazzo shot of some Hollywood star’s new baby or something, forget about retiring on the profits.

Jeez….tough crowd here !! lol
For all it’s worth, I haven’t put my best pics of the Perisher Superpipe and Shaun White up on Instagram. I’m saving them ! I never expected to get any shots in a major publication or anything like that. I’m being realistic. It will be available online soon (with a watermark) !

I’d hoped my big chance to make some decent coin (off exclusive photographs I’d shot that nobody else had) came around the time of the last Winter Olympics. I once took some great shots of young Torah mucking around on Perisher’s Front Valley - on skis. Unfortunately, when she won Olympic gold and the shots were most valuable, I could’t find them anywhere (still can’t). I also photographed a series of portrait shots of Torah back when she was around 14 or 15. Can’t find them anywhere either.

Same boat as chucky - I shot Torah back when she was nobody, at the Sprite Big Air, Thredbo. There were some really great shots, one in particular I printed up and had on my desk as the best snow action photo I had ever taken (at the time), it had nothing to do with Torah being the rider.
But I haven’t been able to find the negatives or even the print.

The only thing I could find (when she won gold in 2010) was a small clip of her in the pipe at Thredbo from a season vid I had made.

That wasn’t the dumbest thing I did.

At the time I was shooting for Inside Sport magazine, back when they still had hot chicks in bikinis on every cover. I was chatting with Torah’s Mum after the shoot, and I mentioned that it’d be great to see Torah on the cover one day. Her Mum shot me this serious ‘if looks could kill’ stare, so I quickly added “Oh, when she’s old enough, of course”.

Her reply - “SHE’LL NEVER BE OLD ENOUGH!!!”.

I had no idea they were really strict Mormons.

Yeah but you are competing against people who were actually on the pipe shooting him and actually had him trying and helping to get the shot, Im not sure if you can compete with that to be honest? The Photographers he had shooting him where world class as well. Even when i was there i felt so out of place, i was way over my head but still a good experience!

If i were you i would put them up soon (your good pictures) because better ones will be posted soon and it will make your ones almost useless when they do get uploaded. Anyway i hope you had a fun time shooting him, i know i did
