Best Snowboard for Jumps and drops

Avatar

they say it’s as stiff as the custom x

Hi again!

At the end I went with YES Big City 158 since they had it at my local shop. It’s maybe little on the short side for what I was looking for, but over all great board. Me like!

But when it’s deep and not steep enough (and maybe for some bigger lines) I want something more pow friendly. Hovercraft is on top of my list at the moment, but still not sure if that tail will be enough for me.

Here is quick edit from Austria last week:

That was GREAT, snowball!

Good to see Austria’s getting the goods. A good mate of mine flew out yesterday.

HEllo again!

Now after the whole season with the Big City, here is what I have to say:
I like the board. It feels looser than I was expecting, since I read somewhere it was supposed to be stiff. Maybe it’s because of its camber profile (only little bit of camber between the bindings, so almost flat).
I rode it a lot in park and pipe, where it was good

And it was really great when riding all over the mountain. I only hope it would be little longer (it is 158 and it was about 2 cm shorter than my old 159 turbo dream), when riding in powder.

Later on the spring I got Jones Flagship 164 for big mountain stuff. It is great for that, but I don’t like it in the trees or other tight places. So I feel like I need (read want) one more board smile Something with a little more float than the Big City, but hopefully as nimble (or almost).

My initial thought was Slash Straight 161, but I’m not sure if it’s too close to the Flagship. Then I found last years YES. Greats 160 for a good deal, which got me interested. As I understand the 2013 Greats is stiffer and has more camber than the previous ones, which would be nice. It is no doubt great board, but I’m not sure if it has more float than the BC (it is longer and little bit wider, but it’s a twin) and since I don’t really need it I would have to somehow justify buying it smile

So if someone has any experience with any of the boards mentioned here or something else, I am more than happy to hear.

Thanks!

And since I got so good feedback last time, here is my newest video from a trip to the alps last spring. 2 weeks mostly in Austria, but also in Italy and Slovenia.

Nice video, snowball2!

Keep your eye out for the YES. Standard which is coming out next season. I think this board is exactly what you’re looking for. It’s a new model which blends the best of freeride and freestyle into one board.

It features the new “Directional Volume Twin” shape, which means it’s essentially a twin in regards to all the normal standards, but the nose and tail volume is offset, so you don’t feel it on hardpack, but it floats better in pow. This was introduced for riders who want to be on a twin, but ride a lot of pow.

It also has a directional CamRock camber profile, so more rocker in the nose for better float in pow.

This board is essentially a twin with some serious freeride/pow capabilities. The graphics are pretty badass too. I don’t think we can release images yet, but I’ll find out.

Thant sound great! Is the shape/idea something similar to the K2 Ultra Dream, except with a camrock profile?
Thanks for the info!

I guess the short answer is “not really”. Both have characteristics to increase float in pow, but really they are very different boards.

Okay. So I just have to wait and see   cheese
Thanks!

Actually I’m thinking of getting 2013 Burton Sherlock 160 or 163 for the upcoming winter, since those can be had for pretty cheap. Maybe the YES. Standard for next year then, when it comes out.

160 Sherlock. Or if you want to blow your mind for trees & pow, look for a burton root. A 152 should be perfect for you.

That Root sounds interesting. I have to look into it.
But Sherlock would be a good choice no doubt. And 160 would probably have enough float but still be nimble enough.
An other twinish powder board I was interested is K2 Ultra Dream, but I’m afraid it doesn’t have so good pop (I had Turbo Dream, which was great in powder but lacked pop).

@snowball2: I thought the Ultra Dream is a directional board? I know it has a 3/4 inch setback stance, not sure if it has less rocker on the tail and more on the nose.

Yes it has setback, but so does Sherlock. But you might be right that it’s more directional board. I’m not really sure.
