I think Gen Y thinks anything on the internet is fair game !! lol
I ain’t Gen Y
I am!!!!!
Gen Y-front???
Better than Y-Back like your generation!!!!!
As for your 3 photo’s of SW they would want to be the best dam photo’s you’ve ever shot.
At best; A cover on a Sydney Newspaper will net up to $10K if it’s an exclusive, top quality image no-one else has.
In reality; (given the number of photogs shooting SW at Perisher) you would be lucky to get $50 for a published shot of him.
That’s less than the fees it costs to shoot in the NP at Perisher - even if you sold all 3.
Without paying the fees; you can’t really make money from them.

I wonder if gravitysports is a member of the Don’t Steal Our Work FB group. Basically a bunch of photogs who created a group to find and trace photos that were used by commercial entities for profit without crediting the photographer or making payment. Looking at that page there’s a shitload of it going on.
This seems to be the right place for this atm, not sure if its been covered already but here you go
Perisher plans to lodge application for 22ft super pipe in centre valley
Perisher Ski Resort announced today that it plans to lodge a Development Application with the New South Wales Department of Planning and Infrastructure to construct a Superpipe (22 Foot Halfpipe) to international specifications offering a truly world class facility for Perisher skiers and boarders. Whilst the new Superpipe will see Australia’s and the world’s best athletes visit Perisher to train and compete it will also be open to the general skiing and boarding public.
CEO of Perisher, Peter Brulisauer said “It’s a fantastic project for Perisher and one that will offer a truly world class facility for our athletes to train and develop their skills to showcase on the international stage. It’s been a long time in the planning and is nice to see this dream start to become a reality.”
Perisher riders Torah Bright and Nate Johnstone have already claimed Superpipe medals at X Games and Word Championship events over the past 4 years with Torah Bright also the current Olympic Gold Medallist. This facility will provide riders of this calibre the opportunity to train more at their home resort and encourage the next wave of Australian athletes to get involved in Halfpipe riding.
Perisher has arranged to purchase a ZAUGG 22ft Superpipe cutter and it’s already been shipped to the resort. The development application for the Superpipe will be submitted this week for consideration by the NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
The Superpipe is planned to be located in Centre Valley with access via Lawson and Leichhardt T-bars. The project will include new automated snowmaking and summer earthworks so that the Superpipe can be built with less snow than would otherwise be required allowing for the Superpipe to operate for as long as possible each winter season.
Perisher Sales & Marketing manager, Richard Phillips said “It’s exciting times for Perisher announcing that we are planning to build a Superpipe whilst we are also busy constructing the new $4 Million Freedom Chairlift in Guthega for the 2014 winter season. Perisher is certainly committed to working hard to improve the experience for our guests during their snow holidays and we are investing to help achieve these goals.”
The project is supported by the Australian Sports Commission and the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Australian Olympic Committee.
Yeah I just read about this. They have been talking so long about it. And they finally have permission from national parks to build it out of dirt so it will open way sooner in the season.
I. Am. STOKED for next season in Perisher!
However… With a new pipe base being built, a new chair in Guthega unlocking freedoms and such AND new auto snowmakers specifically built for the pipe - The chances of Smiggins finally getting some real snow making installed seems unlikely
When is it our turn?? Poor Smigs

Oh well maybe next year, lets just keep it the hidden gem for now
Watch WWOS on Sunday for an interview with Shaun at the pipe.

Never mind, here it is online now ! http://wwos.ninemsn.com.au/video.aspx?uuid=2755693522001
That embarrassment of a story shows why it’s a really good thing Channel Nine don’t have the broadcast rights to the Winter Olympics anymore.
I’d like to take credit for the photo above of the super pipe with the Closed sign. More pics from today of this elusive pipe on my Instagram page- http://www.instagram.com/gravitysports
Much better than poaching peoples pics on the web cheersIm not even sure you should be posting any pictures of the pipe… I just hope your at least getting some cash for them lol
Why shouldn’t he post any photos? If they were my photos, I’d post them too.
Well when people that make a living off taking photos and actually make a hard effort to get the get go to take photos at the pipe for magazines, when someone just posts photos of it for free on Facebook it will make the magazine look less interesting and will prob stop people form buying it. Im not too fussed but thats why i didnt post any pictures because i actually want to work for so called magazines
I get that. I’m talking about recreational photos which I would take, or that which Azz posted. These are amateur photos taken for fun / social media. You can’t compare a photo of a melting pipe with a closed sign in front of it, to a professional action photo taken of Shaun White boosting double corks out of the pipe. They are very different images for very different purposes. Not to mention the countless photos of the pipe already circulating on basically every major snowboarding website in the world. Still, if someone posted a professional photo of Shaun actually shredding the pipe, that’s a different ball game and one that’s worth money.
It doesn’t matter if a photographer considers themself to be “professional” or not - once the owner posts it on social media, it’s fair game for reproduction on other social media. That means it’s perfectly fine to repost on internet forums without crediting the photographer. The only things that aren’t acceptable are for someone else to claim that the photograph is theirs, or for the shot to be used for commercial purposes.
Incidentally, I’m yet to see a single photograph of the Perisher/GoPro pipe anywhere on the internet I’d consider to be even remotely close to “professional” quality.
