I’d like to take credit for the photo above of the super pipe with the Closed sign. More pics from today of this elusive pipe on my Instagram page- http://www.instagram.com/gravitysports
Much better than poaching peoples pics on the web grin cheers

Cool photos, thanks for the link.

Embedding a public photo from Facebook by using the public image URL isn’t really “poaching a pic on the web” (saving and uploading a photo is a different story).

If you are concerned about this happening, I would suggest you change your privacy settings on Facebook to only allow “friends” to view them. This will stop anyone on the internet embedding your photo with Facebook’s public image URL.

Actually, I can grab a URL of a friends facebook photo and even if it’s marked “friends only” share it on here.

All my personal photos are mostly “friends only” and I can share em on here! Even Mizu sees them!

There must be something else in the settings. You can set images to private. I don’t really care about photos I post on Facebook as they become the property of Facebook the second you upload them, but I know it’s possible to lock them up from public viewing/linking. Either that, or Facebook has another bug (surprise surprise).

isnt there some grey area rule that once something is on the internet, unless you sign/copyright/watermark it somehow, you are basically waiving any claim to it?

pretty much. Photo wasnt being used for any advertising or selling purposes

From above article.

...for the Superpipe to operate for as long as possible…

We now know how long it’s possible to operate a Superpipe.

How can we covince NP and Perisher to keep operations going well into mid October?

It was only possible due to funding from Red Bull, GoPro, or SW!!!!! (Whomever it was that foot the bill)

Intelectual property rights determine if you created it you own it.
Just because it’s posted online doesn’t relinquish any rights.

Fb copyright claims of law are bs.

Posting a photo online is similar to leaving a pile of your photos in a bus stop with a freebie sign on them. Anyone can pick them up and show whoever they want.

The only time theres a breach of copyright is if someone re-produces the image or generates income directly from it or claims it as their own.

Photography relies more on ethical practices than law. It’s very open to opinion.

Well when people that make a living off taking photos and actually make a hard effort to get the get go to take photos at the pipe for magazines, when someone just posts photos of it for free on Facebook it will make the magazine look less interesting and will prob stop people form buying it. Im not too fussed but thats why i didnt post any pictures because i actually want to work for so called magazines

Spot on Rick - keep photos off the Internet if you want to use them exclusively.

The accepted ethical approach is to give credit to the photographer when reporting.
Sometimes it can be necessary not to credit the photographer.

As far as I can read into this the photographer is just asking for credit where it’s due.

That’s up to Perisher/Whomever to keep people away if they have done an exclusive deal with Photogs though?????
