http://www.phonebloks.com (seems to be down, could be due to viral traffic)
Created by Dutch designer Dave Hakkens, Phonebloks is a customisable smartphone made up of what’s called ‘modular elements’, or blocks, that can be instantly swapped and replaced.
As I have said before, it’s an engineer’s nightmare. Nobody will make components for it and it would be practically impossible to make work properly.
If this was the design when mobile phones took off, maybe it would have worked. Samsung / Apple / LG / Moto / Sony aren’t going to work together to give you the best bits, they are going to sue each other for having the same bit.
As it says down the bottom it was created by a designer. It looks and sounds good but is not practical and won’t work.
Very cool idea, but yeh as TJ said unfeasible, would be annoying as well making sure you have the right shapes to all fit together.
Samsung announced plans for a phone with a curved screen. What do you guys think?
More here: http://mashable.com/2013/09/25/samsung-curved-screen-smartphone/
Can’t be bothered readin/watchin it, but what good is curved screen?????
Looks like Shamsung are doin the very same things that they ragged on Apple for!!!!!
Watch it dude, it is very impressive. If you fast forward to half way through the ideas / concepts they are working on are really cool.
It is pretty cool. I like how you can see a message while the phone is sitting flat on a table.
This guy reminds me of Azz.
Jeremy….....
So, I watched the video due to peer group pressure!!!!!
And what I learnt is that if you have the latest Samsung technology you can pick up hot chicks really easy!!!!!
Unless a black guy with a bigger bendy one comes along and takes them off you!!!!!
Either: Samsung increases your chances of picking up or you shouldn’t use outdated, chunky bluetooth and act like a douche.
If this is what Samsung are pushing as their prototype it makes me wonder what the leader in portable tech are keeping secrete? You know that company… the one that cops flack for releasing colourful versions of older models that shouldn’t sell but do! That continue to defy what can be done…
Prototypes aren’t ready for release - either they don’t function or can’t be manufactured to be profitable.
Flexible Display concepts have been around since the mid 1970’s.
It looks more like LG will be first to release a working flexible screen, one that doesn’t run so hot it melts the plastic that encases it.
Maybe this thread should be called “Fantasy Gadgets You Wish Existed”
GREAT SCOTT!!!!
HEAVY
Did anyone realize we have a hoverboard smiley?
Now this is really cool. I would definitely get one of these.
Awesome idea, but what about chipped cards, and paywave?????
I love the alert when it gets out of range!!!!! They should make that swiper to link to cards so you can do that alone!!!!!
