Mammoth - Advice & info please

Avatar

First of all sorry if this has already been covered
somewhere - I tried searching the forums and didn’t come up with any relv’
threads.

So this season riding has me snow hooked (like most of us I am sure).
Looking at doing some time/season at Mammoth. Can anyone help me out here
as far as what is the best way to go about staying there, if it is worthwhile working off the
mountain instead of on?
How hard it is to obtain a Visa etc ( everyone says almost impossible? But I am willing to try harder!).
Wanting to go over to ride more than work - don’t we all. But thinking I will need
night work etc etc.

Anything at all would be fab! Trying to get my bearings before deciding on anything, not being sexist but also need to consider what it will be like traveling as a solo *street wise* lady.

Cheers E

Hey E,

Main part about working in the USA is either getting a student working visa or winning the green card lottery.

Since you’re planning on working a minimum wage job, 99% of places won’t sponsor you for the green card lottery since they have more skilled workers that they would prefer to put forward for their minimal spots.

So your best bet is probably to be a tafe / collage / uni student and go through a program like this: http://www.owh.com.au/usa/346/work-plus-ski-usa/

Good luck, I’m sure someone else will come and give you more information soon smile. Hope I helped a bit!

Hi Stella,

You can apply for the greencard lottery - you don’t have to pay a company for this service (and sponsorship not required - confused by TJ’s comment above). Let me find the website.

But there is a thread on here from last season i am sure… the guy asking for advice ended up going to Canada…

Easily accessible from LA, they have had direct flights for a few years now. I’m not sure about off-mountain employment, aside from the ski area itself, the town has a very un-resort air to it. Most of the people coming are from SoCal, it does not have the international draw of Whistler or the Colorado resorts. So, I think the mountain might not be quite as efficient or knowledgable in smoothing the visa process.

Personally, I think the whole corridor between LA and Mammoth, especially the last 100 miles up to Mammoth, is one of the most beautiful spots on the planet. I can’t tell you more about the visa process, unfortunately.
