Just wondering if anyone had a contour camera that I could borrow for awhile of if I could buy one pretty cheap off them??
How much do you sell them for Spaz??
Not currently selling contour.
I will find out how much I can get them from RipCurl when I’m back in Thredbo in a few days.
Roam2 is an ok camera in the $200 - $300 range.
pro’s; 6 element glass lens, 170˚ fov, rotating lens, long batt.
con’s; fixed battery. no lcd, has to be plugged into computer to adjust settings. 144g! (really heavy).
Replay is a very similar camera to ContourRoam2 - It’s frustrating trying to get the settings right, like saturation and contrast, by guessing them while plugged into the computer.
Compared to using a camera that has an lcd and ability to change settings in the field (Drift and those with WiFi) what takes a 1m to change on them takes days to get right on something like Contour/Replay (I can’t wait for the Replay Field Monitor to arrive in the country).
Can contourRoam2 can be attached to a field monitor-?
(psst, ReplayXD720 - $165, 720@60, 56g but narrow fov at 130˚)
Nah need it coz I’m thinking about going in the contour video comp thing, I can borrow one off the Perisher media dude Mic so I don’t have to whip out any money which is good haha
Cheers for the help tho Spaz
NO YOU DON’T!
You just need to include at least 3sec of POV footage and the Contour logo in your entry, there are some other entry specs also.
There’s about it having to be Contour - JUST POV!
I think it may even be written that it doesn’t have to be Contour footage.
I thought contour closed down? (http://news.dice.com/2013/08/07/wearable-cam-maker-contour-shuts-down/)
Seems GoPro have won the race.

I was going to say, heard the same.
yeah i wonder if this comp is even still going haha!
Even so i didnt have enough time to get around to making an edit, luckily tho because Mitch’s entry would have blown mine away lol
Think he has a very decent chance of taking the prize home with him!!
It’s not the first time “that company” has closed it’s doors. Just to re-invent itself branded differently.
Business was on the increase at over 1000%, they had made the prestigious Inc. 500 list as recently as last year with reported 2011 revenues of $27.3 million.
There’s something fishy in the water - I read it as they have just closed down the manufacturing headquaters it doesn’t necessarily mean there aren’t other factories still in operation.
But who knows? They compete with GoPro whose turnover is +$500mil and we have heard many reports of the underhanded way GoPro do business.
Hell, if I owned GoPro and was a complete arsehole (which they are), I would buy out all the competing companies (because everyone should look like a teletubby) and take 100% of the market, forcing their inferior Hero camera’s upon the sheeple.
Oh wait!
Did I predict the HeadCam market was about to collapse a few months back?
Hmmmm…....
FOR SALE:
GoPro Hero3 Black (used once briefly) $350
Drift HD Ghost (NIB) $400
ReplayXD (1080, 720) 2nd hand - going cheap.
I’m keeping a Ghost for myself - it’s such an epic camera.
Might try a startup campaign to build the ultimate POVcam designed by me.
For marketing reasons it will be ugly, have poor menus, 5min battery, leak water, fog up and will claim to shoot 20K video and take one million MP photos. I’ll overprice it and just to get it to function you will have to spend $200 on accessories.
^That business plan worked for GoPro!
worked out for them tho haha i think all pov camera’s are useless after not using one this whole season, even tho i got a GP black in my room just gathering dust lol
Have you used a Ghost yet Rick?
The other day I was playing around using the zoom function. Once the digital zoom is activated and slightly zoomed in it looks to me like an inbuilt anti shake feature is enabled. I have yet to confirm this with Drift but I set it while riding and things seem to have less shake.
Because you can load 3 different settings as defaults; one setting I set up in 1080@30 with the zoom active and in so it’s capturing at about 720 but steady!
I do hear what you’re saying regarding POV’s.
